The Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary in Tršice is a remarkable neo-Baroque Roman Catholic church in the village in the Olomoucký kraj region. The construction between 1905 and 1906 stands at the site of an early Gothic church from the 14th century, which was demolished due to its inadequacy for local parochial needs. This architectural gem reflects in the early 20th century Czech cultural and architectural trends that are consistent with the wider European movement towards historicism.

The original Gothic church served the community until it was considered insufficient in 1904. His demolition led to the construction of a contemporary Neo-Baroque building, completed between 1905 and 1906. This transition from Gothic to neo-Baroque architecture draws attention to cultural shifts of Bohemia during this period, embracing historical styles while modernising infrastructure.

The church has an architectural rectangular plan with a semi-circular axis at one end. The facade is dominated by a tower with a pebble roof and crossed fins, which creates an impressive presence. Pilasters and embedded panels add depth to its exterior, while round or semi-circular arc windows are set in profiled architects, which increases aesthetic attraction. Polygonal sacristy on the ridge adds another architectural interest.

During its history the church remained under the local parish administration, which serves as a central place of worship and community assembly in Tršice. Although there are no dramatic changes in ownership or property documented, the transition from Gothic to neo-Baroque architecture represents an important chapter in his story.

Today, the Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary stands as evidence in the early 20th century of architectural innovation and cultural heritage. It remains accessible to visitors who want to explore its historical significance and appreciate its unique design elements. The church is not only a place of worship, but also a valuable part of the history of Tršice, which offers knowledge of the architectural evolution of the region.

Visiting this monument provides the opportunity to connect with the past while appreciating the craft and vision that shaped it. Its permanent presence in Tršice invites both local and tourist to explore its historical and cultural importance, making it a valuable destination for people interested in architecture and history.

Points of interest

- The Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary in Tršice was built on the site of an earlier Gothic church from the 14th century which served the community for centuries before it was considered insufficient.

- During construction between 1905 and 1906, the selected non-Baroque style reflected a wider European trend towards historicism and demonstrated Czech cultural change at the turn of the 20th century.

- the facade church contains distinctive architectural elements such as pilasters, embedded panels and profiled architectural plates around round or semi-circular arches, which were popular in neobarical design for adding depth and aesthetic attraction.

- Despite the transition from Gothic to non-Baroque architecture, the church remains under the local parish administration throughout its history and serves as a central place of worship and social assembly for the inhabitants of Tršice.

- Polygonal sacristy on the ridge church adds an element of architectural interest which illustrates how the smaller elements of Czech architecture were carefully considered in the early 20th century to improve overall design.

The Parish Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary in Tršicí is a Neo-Baroque Roman Catholic church. It was built in the years 1905 and 1906.

The site itself, however, has a longer history. Previously, a Gothic church from the 14th century stood here, which was very valuable as a heritage monument. However, it no longer met the needs of the Tršicí parish, so it was demolished in 1904 and replaced with a new building.

Today's church has a rectangular floor plan, with only the chancel ending in a semicircle. The facade is dominated by a prismatic tower, and beneath it is the main entrance with a stone portal. The tower is covered with a roof of bulbous shape, topped with a finial and a cross.

The facade is articulated by pilasters, that is, flat applied pillars, and recessed panels. It is pierced by round windows and windows arched into a semicircle, framed with profiled surrounds. The main building is covered with a hip roof. On its ridge sits a multi-sided turret, the so-called sanctus bell turret.
