The Church of Saint Margaret (Antiochian) in Suchohrdly u Miroslavi stands as a testament to architectural resilience and historical significance within the Czech Republic. Located in the municipality of Suchohrdly u Miroslavi, this Roman Catholic church is recognized as a cultural monument due to its unique blend of late Gothic origins and 17th-century modifications. The structure features a single-nave design with a polygonal apse and an imposing tower before its western facade, alongside an adjacent chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. Its historical narrative includes periods of devastation and restoration, reflecting broader European religious and political changes during its time.

The church's origins trace back to around 1500, constructed in the late Gothic style prevalent in Bohemia. This period was marked by significant religious upheaval following the Hussite Wars and amidst the Reformation, influencing both architectural styles and community structures across Europe. The Church of Saint Margaret embodies these times' architectural preferences while serving as a spiritual center for its community.

Architecturally, the church underwent notable changes in the 17th century. Originally built with late Gothic elements, it saw purposeful modifications that included vaulting with a barrel vault and the construction of a spiral staircase. These alterations were complemented by new entrances and the bricking up of an old side portal, reflecting both functional needs and aesthetic considerations of the period. The church's design includes a polygonal apse and a tower before its western facade, contributing to its distinctive silhouette in the landscape.

Throughout its history, the Church of Saint Margaret faced significant challenges. In the late 17th century, it was documented as devastated due to invasions by Turks and Tatars, compounded by local bandits' activities. This led to near-total destruction of the village, leaving the church in ruins. However, resilience prevailed, and the church underwent substantial restoration at the beginning of the 19th century, restoring its structural integrity and spiritual significance.

Today, the Church of Saint Margaret remains a prominent feature of Suchohrdly u Miroslavi. It continues to serve as a filial church under the parish of Miroslav, maintaining its role in the community's religious life. The church has undergone recent restoration efforts, including repairs to its external plastering and documentation of its masonry in 2013, ensuring its preservation for future generations.

Visiting the Church of Saint Margaret offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Czech history and architecture. Its enduring presence as a cultural monument highlights the resilience of both the structure and the community it serves. For those interested in exploring historical sites that encapsulate centuries of change and continuity, this church is undoubtedly worth visiting.

The Church of Saint Margaret of Antioch is a Roman Catholic church in the village of Suchohrdly near Miroslav in the Znojem region. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and as a subsidiary church it belongs to the parish of Miroslav.

It is a late Gothic structure that dominates the village. The church has a single nave and a chancel ended with a polygonal closure, formed by five sides of an octagon. In front of the western façade stands a tower with a brick spire. The church also includes a Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre and additional side spaces along the southern side of the chancel.

The most difficult period came in the second half of the seventeenth century. In 1663, Turkish and Tatar raids devastated this region. The work of destruction was then completed by roving bands of robbers and local thieves and the village was completely devastated. Written sources from that time mention the church as destroyed.

During later repairs the church received a barrel vault. A spiral staircase and a new entrance were created in the vestibule, while the old side portal was bricked up instead. These modifications in the seventeenth century were mainly driven by practical needs. The church was not fully restored until the early nineteenth century.

In 2013 the repair of the external plaster began. It was combined with an investigation of the masonry and its detailed documentation.
