The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Kurdějov in the Břeclavsko region, together with its bell tower, the Chapel of All Saints, and the ossuary, is one of the largest and best-preserved fortified church complexes in the Czech Republic. All the buildings are connected by a defensive rampart wall. The church serves as the parish church of the local parish and is protected as a cultural monument.
The origins of the church probably date back to the first half of the 14th century, with the first written mention from 1350. At that time it was a dependent church of Bolerady under the patronage of the monastery in Dolní Kounice. It acquired its own ecclesiastical administration in 1390. It had a rectangular nave with a flat wooden ceiling, and entry was through a portal in the western facade, which has survived to this day.
Apparently before 1465, a new choir was built. This is evidenced by the date 1465 inscribed in Roman numerals on one of the buttresses. At the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, probably at the initiative of the lords from Lipá, the church underwent extensive late Gothic reconstruction.
