Kostel svatého Jana Křtitele (Turnov) Church

The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Nudvojovice is an early Gothic church situated within a walled cemetery in Turnov's district. Constructed around 1250 by Cistercian monks, it initially served as a parish church for the village before becoming a filial church under Turnov’s jurisdiction in 1551. This historical monument is notable for its architectural significance and preservation efforts that have maintained its cultural heritage status since 1964.

The origins of this church date back to the mid-13th century, during King Ottokar II's reign when Bohemia was part of the Holy Roman Empire. Architecturally, the Church of Saint John the Baptist features early Gothic design, constructed using quarry stone. It has a single nave with a square presbytery set back from the main structure and adorned with narrow pointed windows. A notable element is the southern portal, which exhibits an early Renaissance half-round profiled arch. Additionally, there is a pseudo-Romanesque western portal dating from its 1894 restoration. Inside, visitors can admire a replica of the original baroque ceiling from 1726, featuring painted rosettes and stylized flowers, alongside a cross-vaulted presbytery with a Gothic rose window from the 14th century.

Over the centuries, the church has undergone several significant changes in ownership and administration. Initially serving as a parish church until 1551, it later became a filial church to Turnov. The most notable restoration occurred in 1894 when baroque elements were removed to restore its Gothic features. In recent history, extensive renovations concluded in 2006, which included the installation of the ceiling replica and other preservation efforts.
