Larischův letohrádek in the village Horní Těrlicko is an empire building from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. He served as a summer home and a hunting lodge for the Larisch family. Today it is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

Count Jindřich Larisch-Mönnich of Karviné probably built the castle in 1801-1804. The building was standing in the middle of a set by the road from Těšín to Ostrava. Although she was used to rest and hunt, at that time she was mainly connected to the Count's gardener's house because she was in a fruit orchard.

The construction is walled, plastered and made of bricks, in whose lower part is used a quarry stone. The dominant is a two-storey cylindrical building with a low surface helmet. It is accompanied by two front one-room wings with a rectangular ground plan that clasps a blunt angle. They have a saddle roof and interiors with a vaulted vault. Third, the upper wing is located in the back of the building. It contains a wooden staircase to the top floor, three windows and a flat ceiling. The entrance to the wings is on the ground floor in the central part. The rooms in the round part of the building have dome vaults.

This year's castle was owned by the Larisch family, later became private property. The relevant date is 1847. As a result of crop failure and famine from 1845-1848, Count Jindřich Larisch-Mönnich had local peasants build a wall next to the building. This so-called russian hungry wall of partly worked quarry stone originally bounded the entire orchard and was up to two metres high. Working on it allowed peasants to get food for the day. Only a few dozen meters remain from the original boundary today.

The monument lies on the road I / 11 in the village Horní Těrlicko in Karviná district. It is an important historical element of the region as a protected object.

The historical value and unique architecture of the summer castle makes this place an interesting destination for all lovers of history. The visit helps to better understand the history of aristocratic settlements as well as the context with the times of crop failure in the past.

Welcome to Upper Terlick. You've just stopped at a place that carries a deep relic of history and the silent nobility of past years. You're standing right in front of Larisch's summer castle. Before we go into his secret stories, let yourself stand for a moment and perceive the atmosphere of this place. Do you feel the strange calm presence? Before your eyes, there is a building that was not just an ordinary house, but a symbol of a certain era, an era that associated the joys of noble life with the harsh reality of the world back then.

Let us now return together to the time when everything began to form here. Imagine the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The world was changing, people were looking for new ways to express their beauty and their status. It was in these important years, approximately between the year one thousand eight hundred and one thousand eight hundred and four, that this castle was created. The main architect of this vision was Count Jindřich Larisch-Mönnich. He was the one who decided that it was this place in Upper Térlick that became part of the family heirloom. The Larisches were looking for a place to rest, a summer escape from the heat and their hunting interests. This summer castle was meant to serve as a summer residence and as a hunting lodge, a place where the family could meet, relax and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature.

Now pay attention to the construction itself that you are currently observing. Notice the resemblance. The whole building is built in Empire style. This style, which was very popular at the time, brings to architecture a sense of balance, peace and certain noble simplicity. Although at first sight it may seem to be just a beautiful house, its history has far more practical and simple roots. Imagine this place 200 years ago. There wasn't just a luxury for nobility. This summer castle was located right in the middle of a large aristocratic fruit orchard. And it is in this environment, between trees and greenery, that this building has served primarily as a home for the Earl's gardener. It is a fascinating contrast that the place we see today as a historic castle was originally closely linked to the work in the garden and the care of the fruits of the earth.

Looking at the building, you can realize the dual nature of this place. On the one hand, there is elegance and the need for entertainment for the Larisch family, on the other hand, there is the honest work of a gardener who has kept this place beautiful. This harmony between human work and nature is what you still feel in this place.

Note, however, that the history of this place is not just about summer rest and hunting trips. History is sometimes painful, and this castle is a witness to that. If you look deeper into the chronicles, you will encounter a very difficult period of the year of a thousand eight hundred forty-seven. At that time, there were many adverse effects in the area, which led to a major crop failure. People suffered from food shortages, famine came. It was a time when life turned into a constant struggle for survival. Count Jindřich Larisch-Mönnich made a decision at the time that had a different character than the construction of this summer house. In order to help people in need, he built something next to this building called farm walls. This wall is not just a stone element in the landscape, it is a silent monument to human need and responsibility that the then nobles felt towards their subjects. It is a reminder that even such beautiful and elegant places are firmly linked to the fate of ordinary people and to the harsh laws of nature.

Between the joy of the summer mansion and the weight of the famine, this double bridge makes Larisch's summer castle a place that must fascinate you. It's not just an empty building, it's a living story about people, their accomplishments and their greatest trials.

Today, this object is perceived quite differently. It is not only a private residence, but a precious treasure which is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This means that every wall, every detail and entire atmosphere of this place are now entrusted to us to protect future generations. It's proof of how important it is to keep track of our past so we don't forget where we came from and what roads we had to travel.

Now I won't defend you any longer. I suggest you continue to walk and perceive this place further, like to stop near the places where the orchards used to be, or just lean against the wall and let yourself drift by the thoughts of those who stood before you. Take a look around, feel the silence and try to find a reflection in every piece of this architecture from those ancient years. Thank you for coming to learn more about Larisch's summer castle. We wish you a beautiful and inspiring walk in history.

Seasonal recommendations

In the spring the surroundings are awakening to life and everything around this castle is beginning to green. The air is fresh, and morning fog often floats over the nearby water, creating a mysterious atmosphere. It is advisable to take clothes that can be layered because the weather can be variable. The best time to visit is early morning when light is soft and nature is the most lively.

In the summer months, the landscape is rich and full of rich green. The sun shines intensively and the days are very long, allowing for walking even until late hours. I recommend choosing light and breathable substances and not forgetting the protection from sunlight. The ideal time to observe the surroundings is late afternoon, when temperatures are falling and the light is more pleasant.

Autumn season brings gold, orange and brown to the surroundings. Leaves fall from trees and create a colorful carpet on the road. The atmosphere is calm and melancholic, accompanied by golden light. It's important to wear a waterproof layer and tight shoes because the soil can be wet. The best place to visit is around noon to make the light brightest.

Zimą is a quiet and rather desolate area, with naked branches of trees and possible freezing cover of the ground. The atmosphere is cold and very calm. It is necessary to have very warm clothes, including hats and gloves, so that the frost does not surprise you. Since the days are short in this period, I recommend planning a visit around noon, when the lights are the most.
