The old town hall in Votice, located on the south side of Komenský Square in Benesov district, is a Baroque building with later modifications. It is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, which attracts visitors with its history and architectural character. This town hall is important not only for its long history, but also for adaptations that reflect changes in the city and its administration.

The original building was built at the time of the Renaissance in the places where the house no. 156 stands today, and burned down in 1616. The current old town hall began to build before 1551, but it burned down soon afterwards and was rebuilt several times - namely in 1693, 1746 and 1825. After the fire in 1825, the reconstruction of the building began only in 1830 under the guidance of the magistrate Augustine Haberstreitre, which was completed in 1838. The funds for this construction were obtained by municipal sales of the field of the local teacher who tried to relieve the obligation to ring the tower clock.

Architecturally, the old town hall is originally a Baroque building which was significantly modified during the 19th century and later by modern modifications. It is a simple building with a slightly in-depth ground plan, a narrow rectangular wing is attached to the west tract. In the facade there is a tower with a tower clock and a city emblem from the vootic carver Henry Butcher from 1934. The original ground floor layout was preserved even after the last modifications, and on the first floor there is a large meeting room with the year 1854 on the vault.

After 1850, the building served as the seat of the district court and tax office, reflecting its importance for local governance. Over the years, the town hall was rebuilt several times, most recently in 1995, when it acquired a new roof, façade and gutters. The wind direction was returned to the top of the tower and the head was gilded.

The decoration of the town hall includes an authentic painting of St. Wenceslas and St. Florian from 1765, which originally belonged to the town hall objects, but is now owned by the Podblanicka Museum in Vlashimi. The picture shows Votice times of its creation with various local monuments.

Today, the Old Town Hall stands as a testament to history and architecture that attracts visitors not only for its beauty, but also for its rich historical context. Its adaptation and changes reflect changes in the city and its administration over the centuries. Visiting this monument offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of Votic and appreciate their cultural heritage.

The old town hall in Votice is not only a historical monument, but also a living witness of the past worth visiting. Its presence in the Comenius Square creates a harmonious symmetry with a modern city office and attracts the attention of both local residents and travelers. Welcome to Votice. You just stopped in front of one of the most important and oldest building units in this city. You are standing right in front of the old town hall, which is a silent witness to the centuries that have passed by. Look around you. You are on the south side of Komensky Square. Notice the interesting contrast that exists here. On the one hand, you have this historic building that has traces of many epoch, and next to it is a modern city office. This contrast between the old and the new is now showing you how the city lives, how it develops and how it tries to preserve its roots. Feel the atmosphere of this place where history meets the everyday life of citizens.

Now let's go back deep into the past together to understand why this building is so special. Her story isn't just a story about stones and mortars, it's a story about perseverance. It all started around 1551. That was when the current old town hall began to build. Back then, the building was built in Renaissance style, which means it was probably very harmonious and balanced. But sometimes history can be relentless. Soon after its inception, in 1616, the original building built in the Renaissance was completely burned down. Imagine the horror and sadness of the people who saw their city center turn to ashes.

Yet the city was not broken. This building has become a symbol of constant repackaging. After the first fire, the town hall was rebuilt in 1693. But then came another test and again the building had to be reconstructed again in 1746 after the next fire. Each of these events left a mark in architecture and each one brought new elements. What you see in front of you today is a Baroque building, but it has undergone many other reconstructions and modifications over the next century. It's like a layered book where every chapter was written after some hard test.

Now pay attention to one of the most important periods in the history of this building. There was another big tragedy in 1825 when the fire hit City Hall again. But this fire was a turning point for its present form. After this fire, she decided to reenter the building, but not to repair it, but to completely rebuild it. This big reconstruction didn't start until 1830. It lasted several years and required tremendous effort and courage.

This is where the key character appears in our story. He was Purkmaster Augustine Haberstreit. Under his leadership, this fundamental reconstruction was initiated and brought to an end. Thanks to his determination and leadership, the town hall was completed in 1838. Imagine his role - he had to coordinate work, look for resources, and have a vision of how to create a building out of debris that will serve future generations. Thanks to him, City Hall has the look you're looking at today. Even if we don't know the names of the architects who drew the first plans, we can feel the power of will that rebuilt this building.

Now that you're looking at the building, try to realize that its history doesn't end in the nineteenth century. Even in the newer times, important events related to the art and identity of the city took place here. Notice the details that can be placed here. In 1934, there was an important work created by the carver Henry Řeztek. It created a city emblem that's visible at City Hall. It is a beautiful example of how art links history with the modern history of the city and how new, beautiful elements are added after centuries.

It's very interesting that this building is not just an ordinary house for officials. It is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This means that its value is recognised by the whole state and must be protected for all. It is proof that even if fire can destroy wood and roofs, it cannot destroy the spirit of space and the will of people to rebuild their home. This town hall is living proof that every fall can lead to an even stronger and more beautiful beginning.

In your next walk around the square, try to perceive these sober and strong traces of the past. Notice how baroque shapes mix with later modifications. Feel how the building works in accordance with the surroundings, and yet how it stands out in its history. Old Town Hall isn't just an object, it's a Votic memory.

I hope that this brief insight into the past has enriched you and that you will enjoy walking on these beautiful streets. Don't forget to stop by other interesting places this city offers. Thank you for your time and read what else the surroundings can reveal. See you next time you discover the beauty of Votic.
