Citov Mill in the District Přerov is a water work standing on Moravec, the shoulder of the river Moravia. The area includes a mill, residential area, machinery room, water drive and an economic building. It represents a valuable proof of the region's industrial heritage.

In the places of today's mill, the villages of Citov, the Faerovans and the Emperor's Shelter were built in the early 18th century. The mill itself was set up in the building in 1739 and was subsequently rented by owners.

The mill and the house form one whole under the common roof, but these are separate, walled and single-storey buildings available. On the facade there is a plate dated 1739 and on the corner in the plaster are modern sun clock. There's a statue of St. Florian outside the compound. By 1930, one Francis turbine with a drop of 1.66 metres and a power of 22.1 horsepower is listed here. Electric power production was preserved in the complex while the saw had already disappeared.

During history, many owners and tenants took turns in the property. In 1915 he was a tenant of Konstantin Pavlík. Since July 1, 1920, the new tenant pan Novotný, a brewery stand in Otrokovic won the premises. In 1930 he owned a mill with a saw Rolnik stock sugar refinery in Brod. After nationalization, the object went under Olomouc sugar factories, the national enterprise Olomouc. In November 1959 it was acquired by the Local National Committee Citov and subsequently by the United Agricultural Cooperative. At the end of the 20th century the property was purchased by the Myslivecká Association Citov.

The key milestones are the year 1739, when the mill operation was created. On 12 March 1915 the tenant Konstantin Pavlík completed the installation of electrical lighting with his own dynamism. On 1 July 1920, the above-mentioned lease was made to Mr Novotný. In 1953, the operation was excluded from the milling activity and was used only for the scrapping of grain. In November 1959, there was a transfer to the Local National Committee and the JZD.

Currently, the building is protected as a real-estate cultural monument of the Czech Republic. At the end of the 20th century it was bought by the Myslivecká Association Citov, which made the necessary repairs, preserved the historical character of the building and operated a small hydroelectric power plant.

This water mill is an important example of folk construction and technical development on the river Moravia. Visiting this place offers a unique view of the history of regional milling and industrial heritage.

Architectural development

The mill and residential building are single-storey walls under a common roof, which is typical of the 18th century regional mill architecture. In the 20th century, modern elements were added, such as the sun clock and the installation of a small hydropower plant with Francis turbine. The materials remained mainly brick and stone base, while the roof consists of traditional bags. The recent repairs carried out by the Myslivek Association have maintained the historical character of the building.

Welcome to the water mill in Citov. You're standing on the right bank of the Moravka River, and right now, you're looking at a place that's really unique. There's a building in front of you that's not just an ordinary house, but it's one of the few preserved mill files that you have left in this whole county. Before we take a deeper tour, I suggest you close your eyes for a moment and listen. Do you hear the constant movement of water? That sound is the heart of this place. It is the water that has been flowing here that has given life to this place for centuries and has been the main engine of everything that has happened here throughout its history.

Let us now return together in time and understand why this place is so special. You might think that this mill has always stood here as a place for grinding grain, but its roots are much deeper and more human. It's fascinating that this particular place had a completely different purpose in the past. At the very beginning of the eighteenth century, the three neighbouring municipalities, Citov, the Faithful and the Emperor, together established a shelter. It was not a luxury palace, but a place for lepers, for those who at the time had not enough to provide their own livelihood and need protection and shelter. In this very place, where the most vulnerable were taken care of, this water mill was set up in 17 hundred thirty-nine. It is a beautiful combination of the history of helping others and the subsequent development of the agricultural economy.

Now pay attention to the construction itself, which stands right before your eyes. Notice the resemblance. It's a one-storey building that looks very firm and stable. It is walled and its architecture tells us about how life and work has been done here in the past. There's one very important thing you shouldn't miss. This whole complex of buildings, both the mill part and the residential house, is connected under one large roof. This gives us a clear idea that the boundaries between work and private life practically did not exist here. People here worked by the water and right next door, under the same roof, building their homes and nurturing their families. Everything was connected in one whole, just as there is working with home.

If you look at the facade of the building now, try to find the details that people left behind. If you look carefully at its surface, you will find a record that clearly tells us the year the mill was set up, the year seventeen hundred thirty-nine. It's like signing historical time right in the plaster. And now if you look at the corner of the building, you'll see something else very interesting. In the plaster itself there is a modern sun clock. They're quiet, but very wise. They remind us that time flows here at its own pace, dictated by the movement of the sun and the flow of water in the river.

But the history of this place does not end in the eighteenth century. The mill had to change constantly to survive and serve people in new times. Over the centuries he has undergone several changes in owners and his function has changed dramatically. The original agricultural mill has gradually become something much more modern. In nineteen hundred and fifteen, there was a major breakthrough, which brought light to the dark areas of the mill. Mr. Konstantin Pavlík installed electric lighting here. Imagine the amazing change where a place that was dependent on daylight and the flames of candles became a modern place with electricity. This change was so significant that the mill later became a small hydropower plant. This shows how this object managed to go from old agricultural traditions to new-era technologies.

In the following years, history continued to revolve around new people and new organisations. In the year one thousand nine hundred fifty-nine the assets were transferred to the local National Committee in Citov and subsequently the single agricultural cooperative took care of this area. The name of Mr Novotný, who was associated with this place at some time, appears in the local and in the records. Each of these names, each of these periods, has left its mark here, although today it may seem that there is only peace and quiet.

There's one interesting thing that can make you think. Think about how this place changed in people's eyes. Once it was a shelter for the poor, then a place where the ground grain for the whole neighborhood, and finally a place that produced electricity. It's a fascinating journey from the simplest need for survival to advanced technology. And although the mill is quiet today, its existence is proof of the constant movement of human efforts for a better life.

Now we'll leave you to enjoy the atmosphere of this place in peace. Take a look at the surrounding shore of Morávka, see the calm that exists here, and try to imagine all the people who stood before you looking at the same water. Thank you for coming to see this precious mill set and for paying attention to his story. We wish you a beautiful rest of your journey and hope this place has enriched you with new perceptions.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit the City Water Mill is early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the sunlight beautifully highlights the historical masonry and surrounding shores of the Moravka flow. The transport to the site is possible by car and public transport, and you can best verify the exact connection in a common connection search engine. Take with you fixed shoes suitable for movement in the natural terrain around water, drinking water and insect protection in warmer months. Since there are no other recommended tourist places in the immediate vicinity, plan your trip so that you can spend enough time building and walking along the water stream. Families with children will appreciate a quiet environment in nature by the river, where they can enjoy a light walk associated with the discovery of old craft traditions of our countryside.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring at the historic water mill in CitovA offers awakening nature, when the surrounding trees are only just beginning to green and the water flow after spring melting is gaining strength. The lighting is fine and the morning fog above the surface creates a very calm atmosphere for quiet contemplation. From the point of view of practical advice, you will encounter fewer visitors during this period, so you will enjoy the tour without pressure. As the soil is wet and temperature is variable, remember to wear fixed waterproof shoes and laminated clothing. The best time to visit is in the morning, when the sun warms pleasantly but does not burn yet.

The summer season in this picturesque corner brings lush vegetation full of leaves, which partly shines the historic building of the mill, and the sun's rays glistening on the surface of the drive. The atmosphere is alive, the air smells of warm ground and water. Since this is the main tourist season, it is quite full during the day. The practical advice is to set off early in the morning after opening to avoid the biggest crowds and midday heat. Wear light breathable clothes, headgear and remember to carry a bottle of drinking water, because the shade in the surrounding open terrain may not be enough.

Autumn moons turn the surroundings of the citovic mill into a colorful palette of shades of yellow, red and brown, which contradict the old masonry and dark wood of the building beautifully. The low sun creates long shadows and a specific golden light that gives the whole place melancholy and romantic character. The crowds of people have already fallen down considerably, which will be appreciated by all peace lovers. Due to more frequent rainfall and colder blowing winds, a warmer coat, long pants and tight shoes are recommended. The best time to visit is around noon, when the sunlight at least a little warms the cool autumn air.

The winter season breathes the historical memory of silence and fairy-tale tranquility, especially if snow dusts the landscape and the edges of the water stream are covered by a thin layer of ice. The lighting is very short, it soon gets dark, but the blackness gives the old mill a mysterious touch of the past. Few people come here at this time, so you'll enjoy complete privacy. Practical advice for this season is clear: the necessity is very warm winter clothes, hats, gloves and quality non-slip shoes due to frozen roads. In view of the early twilight and limited traffic during the winter period, plan your arrival for earlier afternoon hours.
