The chateau Nové Zámky is located on the eastern edge of the village Nesovice in the district of Vyškov, on a slight edge above the valley of the river Litava. It is a renaissance building from the 16th century and a valuable example of Italian influence on Czech architecture - but in the form of an incomplete torso.

The construction was initiated in 1561 by Knight Záviš z Víckovic. The project came from an unknown Italian architect and construction was formally launched on 21 April 1561, as evidenced by the inscription above the entrance gate. The original plan included a symmetrical three-wing construction with a courtyard closed on the south side. The construction progressed until 1571, when the chateau took roughly the current form - half of the main north wing and the perpendicular east wing. However, after the death of Zavice in 1569, the construction projects ended. In 1575, the subsequent owner of the Rámek sold it to Henry and Zikmund from Zástěl, leaving the chateau a permanent torso.

Over the following centuries the construction has undergone gradual changes and changes of owners. At the end of the 16th century, a stone courtyard was added. In the 1880s, he was supposedly surrounded by a wall of walls. In 1665 a private chapel was established. In 1750, the chateau belonged to Joséf Leopold Petrasch, the Olomouc revival who held ancient games on it. In 1798 Alois Josef from Lichtenjn purchased it and joined the Bučovice estate. The chateau gradually lost the function of the manor and began to decay. After World War II he went to state property, where he served as a poultry and granary.

In the 1970s it was taken over by the Regional Heritage Centre in Brno and a natural landscape park was established in its surroundings. In the 1980s, partial repairs of facades and interiors followed. In 2002 it was acquired by the Florianov family, which later sold it to the businessman Tomáš Novotný from Brno. This owner has started a gradual reconstruction of the construction and makes it accessible to the public occasionally.

Architecturally, it is a two-wing one-story building in the style of Italian castel, closed with a high ground floor. The western part of the north wing ends with the prism tower, which was originally intended to form the axis of the entire facade. For only half of the building was built, the tower is now asymmetrical. The Nарo towers and the east wing are decorated with cylindrical arches. The inner side is surrounded by a storey gallery with arcades on the ground floor. The walls are closed with stylized "swallows' tails." The windows are lined with stone. The rooms on the ground floor cover rolled vaults, the floor has straight beam ceilings. In particular, the chapel is in the southeast bay with a panky vault.

Nové Zámky, originally called Nový Zámek, is a Renaissance castle on the eastern edge of the village of Nesovice in the Vyškov region. It stands on a gentle promontory above the valley of the Litava River. It is a two-winged single-story building in the style of Italian Renaissance and at the same time an unfinished torso. Today it is protected as a cultural monument.

The castle was built by knight Záviš z Víckovic as a new building on a hilltop east of the village. An unknown Italian architect worked out the project. According to an inscription above the entrance gate, construction began on April twenty-first, fifteen sixty-one. Originally, it was apparently meant to become a symmetrical three-winged building with a courtyard that would be closed on the southern side by a wall. However, by fifteen seventy-one, only half of the main northern wing had been built, along with an eastern wing running perpendicular to it. Záviš died in fifteen sixty-nine, and his successor Přemek sold the castle in fifteen seventy-five to Jindřích and Zikmund ze Zástřižl. The building therefore remained unfinished. By the end of the sixteenth century, a stone courtyard arcade was apparently added, which replaced the previous temporary structure. According to Wolný, a private chapel was established in sixteen sixty-five, and allegedly in the eighteen eighties, a fortification wall surrounded the castle.

The castle changed hands frequently. In seventeen fifty, it was acquired by Josef Leopold Petrasch, an Olomouc revivalist, who held classical games there. In seventeen ninety-eight, Alois Josef from Lichtenštejn bought the estate and attached it to the Bučovice domain. The castle thus ceased to serve as a manor seat and began to deteriorate. After the war, it fell to the state and served as a poultry house and granary. In the seventies, the Regional Monument Centre in Brno took over the devastated building. At that time, a nature landscape park was created around the castle, and in the eighties, the facades and interiors were partially repaired. In two thousand two, the castle was returned through restitution to the Floriánov family. They sold it to a Brno entrepreneur Tomáš Novotný, who began a gradual reconstruction.

The building resembles an Italian castle. It is single-winged and topped by a high attic half-story. The western end of the northern wing is closed by a prismatic entrance tower, which was originally supposed to be the axis of the entire façade. The corners of the tower and the eastern wing are outlined by cylindrical bartizans. The walls are finished with crenellations in the shape of swallow tails, and the windows have stone jambs. A two-story arcade faces the courtyard—on the ground floor formed by arcades, and on the upper floor covered by a sloping roof on beams. The rooms on the ground floor have barrel vaults, while on the upper floor they have flat beam ceilings. The altar space of the chapel in the southeastern bartisan is vaulted with a flat vault.

Tips for visitors

To visit the Renaissance chateau Nové Zámky in Nesovice, choose the morning clock, where the sunlight ideally radiates the historical facade and surrounding natural landscape park, creating great lighting conditions for photography. The chateau is situated on a picturesque island above the valley of the river Litava, where beautiful views of the landscape are opened.

Transportation to Nesovice is possible both by car and public transport, and check the current connection in normal search engines. Since the monument is being renovated and represents an unfinished display of the 16th century Castel, we recommend to monitor the current information on accessibility directly on the official website.

Take firm shoes with you on the road, because movement around the chateau park and on the island above the river Litava can be more difficult on uneven terrain. Don't forget the drinking water and the repellent in the summer months for greenery around the park.

For photography lovers, the best pictures of the exterior of the one-storey caste with two wings and views from the ceiling from the river Litava. Especially impressive pictures can be taken in the morning or late afternoon light, which emphasizes the Italian Renaissance building.

Due to the location in the nature of the landscape park and the ongoing reconstruction, the visit is more suitable for older children and people interested in architecture who appreciate the atmosphere of this historic torso. A walk along the river Litava and the discovery of natural scenery in the immediate vicinity of the chateau island is worth mentioning in the vicinity.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring moons bring awakening nature, where the chateau park in Nesovice blooms and offers the first warm sun rays falling on the historic facade. The atmosphere is calm and ideal for quiet contemplation over the history of this place. Due to ongoing construction work, it is worth monitoring up-to-date information on exterior accessibility. Take your shoes for a walk, because the roads after winter can be wet and muddy. Count on a smaller number of visitors, allowing you to enjoy the surrounding landscape without disturbing influences, and the best time for visiting is in the morning when the sun pleasantly illuminates the chateau area.

During the summer season the surroundings of the chateau are full of lush greenery, which partially covers scaffolding and construction, creating a picturesque scene for photography. The day is long and sharp midday light alternates the golden hour of the late afternoon, which gives the memory a remarkable charm. Since this is the main tourist season, it is advisable to arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the greatest temperatures. Put on light, breathable clothes and don't forget the headgear and plenty of fluids. The door of the monument is more open during this period, but it is still necessary to respect the safety tapes at the construction zones.

Autumn season covers Nesovice in colorful leaves, creating a melancholy and very photogenic atmosphere. The low sun and the morning mist provide a mysterious touch to the chateau complex, which will be appreciated by all lovers of peaceful wanderings. The weather is usually variable, so it is necessary to choose layered clothes and waterproof shoes. On weekends there are sometimes curious travellers, but overall there is great peace. The best time to visit is around noon, when the fog retreats and daylight best stands out on ancient walls.

Winter moons turn the resort into a quiet place where the snow cover covers the construction industry and gives the whole place a fairy tale. The lighting is very muted and the days are short, which creates a raw but authentic atmosphere of old times. In advent time and during cold months it is absolutely necessary to wear warm winter clothes, hat, gloves and firm non-slip shoes. You can only meet visitors at a minimum, so you can enjoy complete silence. Due to the early dimming and limited operation of the monument in winter, plan your arrival for the early afternoon.
