The Jewish cemetery in Timberland is a cultural monument from the middle of the 18th century. Located in the village of Vysočina about 500 meters northwest of the village. Excellent collection of approximately 300 Baroque and Classicist tombstones.

The Jewish community in Timberland has been documented since the beginning of the 18th century, when the cemetery itself was probably founded. The existence of the local municipality ended as a result of the 1890 Act.

The total area of the cemetery is 1777 m ². There are about 300 macaques from the Baroque period and classicism, many of which are very valuable. The oldest preserved tomb dates back to 1748. In 1762 Jan Heřman and Jiří Fiedler present at the tombstone of Ashera ben Jitzhaka. Fragments of damaged baroque stones are fixed in the former mortuary-roadhouse.

Until the time of the German occupation, the Jewish village in Heřman City took care of the cemetery. Nowadays, it is a monument in the Prague Jewish village.

After 1886, the cemetery was extended. The burial took place here until the first third of the 20th century, then the monument gradually became desolate. In the 1970s, it was restored by local residents under the leadership of the district monument Ludek Stepan. Until 1985 there was one of the last wooden tombstones in Czech countries from the time of the First World War. It was subsequently transferred to the Museum in nature Vysočina.

The monument at the edge of the forest represents an important archive of tombstone art and testimony of Jewish presence in this location. It allows visitors to study authentic Baroque and Classicist matrices in their original context.

Welcome to the Jewish cemetery in Lóvíkov, a unique cultural monument located in the picturesque landscape of Vysočina. When you stand here, you find yourself in the midst of peace and history, where every stone tells the story of the past. The view of the cemetery will surround you with a collection of about 300 baroque and classicist matrices that reflect the rich history of the Jewish community, which was once prosperous with its architecture and artistic emphasis.

The cemetery was probably founded in the middle of the 18th century along with the Jewish community and served as a final rest for the locals for over two centuries. The oldest preserved tombstone you can find here dates back to 1748 and is a witness to the long history of this place. After 1886 the cemetery grew to meet the needs of the growing community. The burial took place until the first third of the 20th century, when the gradual termination started as a result of changes in society.

Look up and look at these matrices, which are not only the monuments of the dying, but also the testimony of life, culture and faith. Each tombstone is unique in its design and ornaments, many of which show classical elements with elegant cuts and baroque details full of dynamic lines. In the premises of the former mortuary, note the fragments of damaged baroque stones, which were fixed as a monument to the duration and resistance of the human spirit.

Although the particular architects of these matrices remain unknown, their work shows great skill and deep respect for the deceased. This cemetery is a key part of the history of Woodland and Highlands as a whole, although the specific personalities associated with its creation are not known.

The interesting thing about this place is that by 1985 there was still one of the last wooden tombstones from the older times. This tombstone was later moved to the Museum of Nature Vysočina so that it could admire the wider audience. It is a strange reminder of the changes and the memory that the cemetery symbolizes.

In the 1970s there was an important restaurant of monuments to locals, which shows deep respect and care for this historic place. This event is a testament not only to the preservation of monuments, but also to the community's association with their past.

Let's move closer to some of these matrices and notice their individual stories. Every matte is a unique work of art that tells its own history of the lives that began and ended here.

Before leaving, let yourself look around and appreciate the peace and deep sense of this place. Think of the lives that have taken place here and the history that this cemetery has preserved. If you have time, explore the surrounding areas of the Highlands where you can find other stories and monuments that await discovery.

We thank you for your visit to the Jewish cemetery in Timberland. We hope that this guide gave you a better understanding of its historical and cultural value. Let your journey continue full of discoveries and thinking about the past.

Tips for visitors

Avoid using lightning and do not interfere with stone tombstones.\ n\ n It is advisable for families with children to plan a shorter tour because the terrain is slightly sloping and some graves are older and fragile. Explain to children the historical importance of the site and let them collect leaves or pebbles only outside the protected areas.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring season in Timberland brings a new life with the bloom of nature and a fine, scattered light that beautifully highlights the structures of old stones. The atmosphere is fresh and full of hope when the first green shoots begin to intersect between the tombstones. We recommend visiting the morning hours when the air is the cleanest, but do not forget the layered clothes, because the morning cold in the mountain area Highlands can still be felt.

During the summer months the monument is healed by dense greenery and the sun hits the cemetery in full force, creating a warm and peaceful atmosphere. Days are long, which allows for walking in the late hours. Due to the increased interest of visitors in the main summer season, it is best to arrive early in the morning to enjoy silence and avoid the biggest crowds and heat. Don't forget the sun protection and plenty of fluids.

Autumn is a period of deep melancholy and calm for this space, when leaf colours turn into shades of gold and brown, which perfectly complements the historical character of the place. The morning fog surrounding the tombstones creates a mystical and fairy-tale mood. It is ideal to visit the cemetery in the afternoon when the light is softer. Due to wet soil and falling leaves, it is recommended that footwear with good grip and waterproof clothing.

Winter moons turn the cemetery into a place of silence and brute beauty, when bare branches of trees and possible snow sheets highlight the fragility and durability of the monument. The atmosphere here is very lonely and meditative. Due to the short days and low temperatures, plan a visit around noon so you don't get caught in the early shadow. It is necessary to wear a very warm and windy garment layer in order to make your visit comfortable even in frosty highlands.
