The prayer house of the Baptists Vikýřovice lies in Šumper Street as a trace of almost a century's development of the evangelical community in a small Czech Moravian village. The building belongs to a network of Protestant sacral structures, developed in the interwar period by the Brotherhood Unity of Baptists in the territory of the Czechoslovak State. The victorial prayer room is an important example of how immigrants and reemigrants formed the social and spiritual face of Czech villages.

The beginning of the congregation dates back to 1925, when eighteen families of Czechoslovak emigrants from Volyn and Zelów came to Vikřovice. These people returned after the first land reform in which they acquired new territory. Vikýřovice at the time was a purely Catholic and German community. The arrival of the Volya Czechs brought a new spiritual dimension here - they founded a choir of the Brotherhood Unity of Baptists and during the first three years, when they had not yet had their own prayer house, they met in a local school building and on a granary.

Summer of 1928 happened before the instant. The members of the congregation decided to build their own prayer house and started their own work. The creation of the building thus represented the work of the collective willing and trusted. Prayer was finished in the same season and became the physical center of the spiritual life of the viceroy Baptist community.

The Second World War was a slow development of the congregation and its activities. During the years of war, only eight members remained among the believers - a clear proof of the oppression faced by the Protestant miniscule. After the end of the conflict, however, the community grew again by the arrival of other Volya Czechs who returned to their homeland.

After the war, the prayer room went through a gradual modernization. In 1974, the College added a new house to it, which served as a apartment for local preachers and thus gave the community a more permanent institutional structure. In 1980, its interior had undergone adaptation, which probably modernised the inner space and adapted it to the needs of the believers of the second half of the twentieth century.

Today, the prayer house in Vikyřovice continues to live the life of the congregation that it has served for more than a hundred years. The visitor sees a place where generations of believers meet bound to common roots in Volyn and to unity founded decades ago in 1928.

Welcome to Vikyřovice, a small place with a great history that deserves the attention of anyone who is interested in the cultural and religious heritage of our region. You are standing in front of a Baptist prayer house, one of the few monuments that shows the courage and endurance of the Czech minority in this historically Catholic area.

This space was built in 1928 thanks to efforts by reemigrants from Volyn and Zelów who moved with their families to this place. In 1925 they founded the first Baptist choir in Vikřovice after the arrival of 18 families who wanted to maintain and develop their faith and new space. The prayer room was built by its own forces of members of the congregation, which is a real expression of their determination and community spirit.

Look up at the front of the building. Although unknown architects were behind this simple but important construction, it is clear that every stone was laid with love and care. The interior of the prayer house was adapted in 1980, bringing new life to the space that has become the centre of faith for the local community for centuries.

Key stories associated with this monument are best captured in the memories and traditions that take place here. Although specific historical personalities are not mentioned in the description, each member of the congregation contributes to the common monument that the prayer house represents. It's a place where generations meet and share their beliefs and traditions.

The interesting thing is that this prayer house is part of a network of Protestant sacral buildings from the interwar period, which the Brotherhood Unity of Baptists has developed throughout Czechoslovakia. This historical context underlines the importance and broader impact of this place not only for Vikýřovice, but also for the religious scene entirely in the region.

Let's move closer to the building. Notice how calm and calm this monument radiates. It is a place of rest for the soul and mind, which is reminiscent of the importance of unity and joint effort.

Inclusion in the Brotherhood Unity of Baptists in 1928 was a key moment for the choir. This classification not only provided a formal structure, but also enabled the development and consolidation of their religious practices in the new space.

The invitation to further explore this place is here. You will look around, or you will walk through the Šumper Street and see how the prayer room stands as a trace of almost a century's development of the evangelical community. Whether you are a visitor or a resident here, you will surely notice the profound importance of this place.

Thank you for your attention and I hope this guide helped to open new windows into the history and spirit of Vikřovice. For further discoveries, let this monument become an inspiration to you for further experiences and knowledge.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is the days of worship or quiet afternoon summer, when the building is most accessible and there is a peaceful atmosphere around.

The location is available by car and by public transport; We recommend checking the current connections and parking possibilities in the surrounding area in the current maps or search engines.

Due to the nature of the object as a place of prayer we recommend to take with us suitable, decent clothes and keep quiet when entering the building.

For photography are the best morning or late afternoon hours, when natural light highlights the details of the facade from 1928. Focus on alternating architectural elements and the simplicity of the building.

For families with children, a visit is an opportunity to discuss the history of reemigrants from Volyne and Zelów and how different beliefs interconnected in one community.

Imagine going back to the time when there were people living in Vikyřovice who stayed in small villages and worked in the fields. It was a different era, but places still existed.

The Baptist Prayer was built as a place for meeting people who wanted to pray together and share their religious faith. Who lived here? People from the surrounding villages who came to Vikřovice for worship or stopped here for a moment of rest.

It was like a game where you played in a small town and everyone knew each other. Those who prayed created their own rituals, sang songs and talked to God.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings to the surroundings of the prayer house awakening nature and fresh greenery, which complements the silvery of architecture. Soft spring light is ideal for observing facade detail in natural colors. We recommend to dress in layered clothes so that you don't get surprised by the variable weather, and plan a visit to the morning hours when the air is purest and the stream of people is mild.

In the summer months the landscape is dominated by green and intense sun, which fills the space with bright light. The atmosphere is playful and full of energy, typical of the top tourist season. Due to the higher attendance rate, it is advisable to arrive first thing in the morning to avoid the largest groups and midday heat. Don't forget light, breathable clothes and plenty of fluids.

Autumn covers the memory with golden colours of leaves and morning fog, creating a calm and slightly melancholy mood. The sun stands below, so afternoon shadows give the building visual depth and drama. The practical recommendation is moisture-resistant shoes and a visit on working days where there are far fewer people than on weekends.

Zimą reigns in Vikřovice silence and freezing calm, which can be underlined by a white layer of snow. The building in this cold environment is very monumental and cosy. It is necessary to choose warm thermal clothes and in advent time to count on shorter opening time, therefore we recommend to check the exact time of arrival in advance.
