Town house no. 166 in Bedřich Smetana street in Pilzni-Internal The city became a cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1991. Although today we recognize its appearance as a work of Art Nouveau in the early 20th century, its roots date back to the Renaissance era.

The original house in this place was built in 1523, when it was built by Shimon Kralovický. He served his purposes for a long time, until the Cross family bought it in 1830. But at the beginning of the twentieth century, the situation changed. In 1898 the old house was demolished and in its place built a new legal house. His project was covered by architect František Krásný and the construction was carried out by builder František Kotek.

The result is a Art Nouveau four-storey building, which, with its elegance, detaches itself from a number of surrounding houses. It is a typical terraced, walled, plastered house with three visible Art Nouveau facade. On the ground floor there are two entrances - the home entrance on the right and a centrally located entrance to the store. A characteristic feature of the facade is the cordon ledge located between the second and third floors, underneath which is a rich decoration made of wreaths, garlands and mascarons. The house is completed by a preplanted main ledge with a tooth cut and a high attics supported by pylons.

The internal disposition is treated as a transverse tritract. There is a two-arm staircase located in the back of the oval. The house has cellars with well; the cellars were partially buried in later reconstruction. The construction was initially divided into four apartments without lift and without central heating; apartments have gas connection and public water supply. The building materials were stone, bricks and blocks.

In 1902 the house became a symbol of selflessness and public spirit. Čeňka Kří referred him to the Pilsen sharpshooter corps on condition that a new shooting range will be built from the proceeds and his fusible ceremonies will be prepared. This rare event is still commemorated by Čeňka Kříže commemorative plate placed on the facade of the house. Today the construction is not only a architectural gem, but a constant compliment to one of the Pilsen benefactors.

Let's move forward in time and see how this house got to the present. Its history dates back to 1523, when the house of the partner Simon Kralovický stood at this place. Now pay attention to the front of the house. Note the stucco decoration elements that decorate the facade. It's wreaths, garlands and mascarons that create a unique atmosphere of Pilsen Art Nouveau. Take a look at the details of how they are carefully processed and how they reflect the Pilsen creativity and talent of the local architectural school.

House Bedřicha Smetany 4 is not only a beautiful architectural gem, but also a rich history and interesting personalities. Čeňk Kříž, who had the house built, was an important Pilsen businessman and his house became a symbol of the prosperity and creativity of the Pilsen bourgeoisie.
