Decoration in the village Spálené Poříčí is a Baroque building from 1690, located in the Square of Liberty. The building served originally as a rectory and was later promoted to Archdeacon. Since 1963 it has been registered as a cultural monument.

The early Baroque ground floor building was established in 1690 in the northeast corner of the village. Its creation falls into the period of expansion of Baroque architecture in Bohemia after the Thirty Years War.

The current form of construction is the result of a reconstruction from around 1780, led by master Václav Kopřiva. The building was raised by one floor and adapted to the late Baroque style. The one-story house has five window axes in the main south facade and two in the side. The facade is profiled with Lizzy belts and a ledge. The house has a relief sign of the Prague chapter of St. Vitus. The windows are supplemented by shampoo with ears. On the ground floor there are also segmented corrugated or triangular mantelpiece and forged voluously hollow bars. The western entrance gate with stone isling, gem and planks placed in the shape of the ear emphasizes the character of a rural Baroque. The whole complex is covered by a mansard roof with bombers.

The interior of the ground floor consists of a well-arched corridor with lunettes, from which the entrances lead to regularly located rooms. There is a two-arm staircase to the first floor with a high-rise vault and cross-vaults at rest areas. The floors have flat ceilings decorated with stucco. The building preserved black cuisine and part of the original mobility. The deanery also includes stables on a rectangular plan. They have four window axes, three entrances and a facade with an arched crown ledge. The shields are embossed with ventilation holes, and they lead to the yard in the shape of a steer mesh.

Until 1749, the estate belonged to the House of Des Fours, which subsequently sold it to the St. Matthew of Prague. In 1792, the building was promoted to Archdeacon. The official status of the cultural monument building was obtained on November 25, 1963.

The dean played an important role at the time of the national revival. On the initiative of Josef Václav Sedláček and Martin Bludský, the reader company started working here. In 1894-1895 he worked here as a chaplain writer Jindřich Šimon Baar. However, due to unfulfilling official work he spent only one year here and then moved to Stochov.

In 1999-1997 the building underwent expensive reconstruction. The house still serves its original purpose today.

The deanery is an important architectural element of the center of the Burned Poříčí, and it authentic documents the development of the church administration in the region. Thanks to the preserved details and historical context, it is worth visiting everyone interested in Baroque architecture.

Welcome to the Heart of the Burned Rage. Stop for a moment, take a breath and look in front of you. You're standing in front of a building that is one of the most important architectural symbols of this city. It is a deanery, a building that tells the story of faith, power, culture and personal crises of people who once lived and worked here by its presence in Freedom Square. The first impression of this building is the impression of stability and dignity. It's a house that carries a trail of centuries and defines the character of the whole neighborhood in its form.

Let us now go back in time together to understand how this building came into being and what role it has played in history. It all started in 1690. At that time there was built a rectory, a house intended for the spiritual administrator of the local church. It was the time of an early Baroque, when new, dynamic energy buildings began to appear in the landscape. The original object served as a centre of spiritual leadership of the community and was a cornerstone for everything that came later. However, the history of this place is closely linked to changes in property relations. In 1749, there was a major twist when the House of Des Fours was sold to the Prague Saint Vincent. This change of owner brought new status and a new face in the future. The height of her administrative rise was 1792, when the rectory was promoted to Archdeacon. This means that the building was no longer just a priest's house, but it became the seat of a high spiritual office, which made it a centre of power and administration throughout the region.

Now pay attention to the architecture itself. If you look at the facade, you'll see the effects of the late baroque. In later times the building was rebuilt into this style, which is characterized by its elegance and balance. The whole project hates the signature of architect Václav Kopriva, who was able to combine functionality with period aesthetics. Look carefully at the front of the house. Look for a detail that is crucial to this building that leaves a trail of Prague influence. Notice the relief sign of the Prague chapter of St. Vitus. This small but important element is essentially the signature of the owner and symbol of the connection of this small town to the capital of the kingdom and its most important temple. It is a silent testimony about how strong ties existed between the local dean and the Prague center of church power. Feel the atmosphere of this place and imagine how people have been meeting before this facade for centuries, what the steps of the knuts were and how the spiritual life of the whole area was decided.

But this building was not just a religious place. It was also an oasis of culture and education. Something very important happened here at the time of the national revival when the Czechs woke up again in their identity and language. At the initiative of prominent personalities, the reader society started working here. Imagine those little rooms, full of books, where, in silence or heated discussions, texts were read that were meant to change the minds of an entire nation. It was a meeting place for intellectuals where new ideas spread and the honour of the Czech word was cultivated. Names such as Josef Václav Sedláček or Martin Bludský are associated with this period, which helped to shape the cultural landscape of the region. At that time, the Dean served as a bridge between the spiritual world and the enlightened world, between tradition and modern acceptance of freedom and education.

Speaking of personalities, one very interesting and human story cannot be forgotten. Let's transfer to the end of the nineteenth century, namely 1894 to 1895. At this time he was a chaplain writer Jindřich Šimon Baar. You may have heard of his literary creation, but his stay in this house was short and full of inner tension. Baar only spent one year here. Why so little? The reason was his unfulfilling work. Imagine a young, sensitive man, a talented writer who finds himself a chaplain in a small town. He felt that his tasks were inconsistent with his internal call, that his work did not bring about the meaning and fulfillment he sought. This short year in the deanery was a period of confusion and perhaps grief for him, but it was also part of his life's journey, which later led him to write. It's fascinating to think that there was once a man in these walls who struggled with his own role in life looking for a way to the truth and true calling.

So this building is much more than just a set of rocks and plaster. It's a layered record of history. From the early Baroque parish to the archdeacon to recognition as a cultural monument, which occurred in 1963. This entry on the list of monuments was a recognition that the building has an irreplaceable value for the whole company. It's a monument that survived wars, regime changes and oblivion.

Now if you look at the building as a whole again, try to see all these layers in it. You see the year 1690 and the beginnings of the rectory? Do you see the influence of Václav Kopřiva and baroque elegance? Do you feel the spirit of the reader society and the passion of national renewal? And do you hear in it perhaps the silent sigh of young Chaplain Baar, who felt a stranger here? It is these invisible stories that make up the true value of the places we visit.

Now that you know the story of this house, I suggest you observe it for a while. Notice how light is reflected from the facade and how the building fits into the rhythm of Liberty Square. It's a place where history meets the present in complete peace. The Deity in the Burned Poříčí remains a silent guardian of memory, reminding us that even in small towns there were great stories.

Thank you for accompanying me on this short journey through time. I hope this view of the deanery has helped you see more than just an old house in this building. Now I call you to explore the beauty of the Burned Order. Go through the surrounding alleys, perceive the atmosphere of this city and look for more clues of the past that are waiting for you around every corner. I wish you a pleasant continued journey and many new discoveries. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

For the best experience we recommend a visit in spring or summer months, where the surroundings are full of life and the baroque facade works very strongly in bright light. At these times it is best to visit the place around noon when the sun illuminates the building directly and highlights its architectural details.

The property can be travelled by car and by public transport; Check the current connection in the search engine. It is advisable to have comfortable shoes for walking through the city centre and possibly with water.

If you want to take pictures, you can get the best views directly from the square in front of the building. Late afternoon light is ideal for capturing wall texture and baroque elements without hard shadows.

For families with children, walking around this historic building is interesting thanks to the possibility of observing old architecture in the urban environment. Children can look for different shapes and decorative elements on the facade of the building during a walk together.
