House No. 413 on Planava Street in Štramberk (Nová Jicin district) is a historical monument from the 1930s. This grafted object, later extended to the walled part, belongs to the town conservation and forms an important part of the cultural heritage of the village. At the beginning of the 21st century it underwent a complete reconstruction which ensured its preservation.

The history of Štramberk is rich and complex. According to the urbarian from 1558, there were originally 22 houses in the square with a wooden arch, which were granted the law of wheat, and seven settlements in the suburbs. There was a brewery in the middle of the square. In 1614 there are 28 farms, farms, church, school and 19 houses behind the walls. The reign of Jesuits in 1656 was already 53. The first walled house (No. 10) was built on the square in 1799. In 1855, the city was hit by a fire that burned down about 40 houses and two barns. In the 1930s, twelve wooden buildings stood near the square.

House No. 413 was created at the time of industrialization and modernization of the urban environment in Bohemia. At the time, Europe experienced political changes accompanied by a growing national movement. The original wooden houses were gradually replaced by walled houses in Štramberk. This building is part of the original suburban building.

Architecturally, it is a ground-floor grafted and partially walled structure on a rectangular plan. The shield wall side is oriented to the street and slope. The layout is two-piece, formed by atrial and scar. The house stands on a tall plastered stone suspect that balances the slope inequality of terrain. In its part there is a cellar space which served as a barn; access is from the north side. The back of the house is walled. In the west side there is a main entrance in the wall part, while in the grafted part there is one wall window. The shield grafted facade is two axes with windows in wooden frames, oriented into the valley (north). The shield is triangular, vertically boxed with slats, equipped with two windows with halves at the top and a break in the heel. There's a little officer under the table. The south side, including the shield, is walled, with one window and a half in the top. The saddle roof with halves is covered with shingles, on the west side there is a skylight with a counter roof.

House No. 413 was entered in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic before 1988, which confirms its historical and cultural importance. Today, the building is open to visitors and captures its architecture and history. It offers an opportunity to become familiar with the rich past of Štramberk and appreciate the efforts to protect it for future generations.

House No. 413 is not only a monument but also a witness to the changes Štramberk has undergone over the centuries. His visit provides insight into the history and architecture of the region and recalls the importance of protecting cultural heritage.

Welcome to the beautiful Štramberk, where history touches every stone and every wooden grass. Stop for a moment, take a breath and feel the atmosphere of this unique alley. You're standing in front of the house with the number four hundred thirteen on Planava Street. You can see before you a building that is a silent witness to many generations and which carries the story of the changes that our landscape and cities have been going through over the last two centuries. Look at the overall form of this object. It is a place that immediately transmits you to another time when the rhythm of life was determined by the nature and craftsmanship of the people who built these houses with their own hands.

Let us now look together at how this house was created and in what context it stood at the time of its birth. This building dates back to the 1930s, namely between the year one thousand eight hundred thirty and one thousand eight hundred thirteen. Imagine Štramberk at that time. It was a space where wood from surrounding forests served as a basic building material. That's why this house is a grafted building at the heart. The grafting was a traditional way to create a warm and resilient home at the time. The wooden beams were precisely fitted together to withstand the frost and wind. This method of construction was not only practical, but also expressed a deep bond between local people and their natural environment.

Now, if you look closely at the facade details, notice the interesting contrast in the materials. The house isn't just about wood. Over time, as families grew and needs changed, the construction was extended to the walled part. This transition from wood to stone and bricks is very typical of the development of rural and small-town architecture. Walled parts brought greater stability, better protection against moisture and, above all, higher safety. See how these two different techniques of building together blend together. It's like a book in which every layer of material writes a new chapter in the history of this house.

Now pay attention to the wider context in which the house is located. Štramberk is known for its narrow development and picturesque streets, but the history of this place was not always idyllic. In a thousand and eight hundred and fifty-five, the city was hit by a big fire. The fire disaster, which destroyed many buildings at the time and affected the entire city building, left deep traces in the memory of the inhabitants. It is these events that have often led people to resort more to the above-mentioned walled structures to prevent future disasters. House number four hundred and thirteen so stands as a symbol of survival and ability to recover.

Although today we do not know the specific names of the architects who designed this house or the names of the personalities who lived there in the past, we feel their presence in every detail. They were craftsmen who knew their craft in depth, and the inhabitants who kept this house carefully. It is this anonymous history that is sometimes the most precious because it represents the lives of the ordinary people who formed the face of our region.

Note that you are located in an area that is today protected as a city monument reservation. This means that this house is not just an ordinary building, but is recognised as an important part of the cultural heritage of the whole village. In order not to lose this value in time, the house was entered in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic a year ago. This entry is essentially an official recognition that the construction has an irreplaceable historical and cultural value that needs to be preserved for future generations.

The interesting thing that might interest you is the state of the house at the beginning of the century. Around the year two thousand passed the entire building a complex reconstruction. Imagine how much work that took. Correction of old grafting requires specific knowledge and patience to preserve the original form while ensuring that the house is safe and functional even for modern times. Thanks to this care we can admire the house today in such a state and perceive its authenticity. It's a fascinating idea that a house that was built almost two years ago, thanks to human dreams and respect for history, still stands and radiates its original charm.

Now, if you look again at house number four hundred thirteen, try to imagine how many conversations have taken place in his walls, how many children have grown up here, and how many winters have people overheated by the heat of the home fire. This house is basically a bridge between the past and the present. It is part of the wider Štramberka mosaic, which makes it one of the most beautiful places in our country.

I wish you to remove from this stop a sense of peace and respect for what is left of our past. History is not only about great battles and kings, but about these houses that tell us stories about everyday life, hard work and love of home.

Now we invite you to explore this wonderful reservation. Please continue your journey through the streets of Štramberka, discover other hidden corners and let the atmosphere of this city take you. Feel the details, look at the roofs and listen to the silence of the old walls. I hope this short trip in time was rewarding for you. Thank you for your attention and I wish you a pleasant continued walk. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit this grafted house is spring and autumn months when the weather is mild and surrounding nature in Štramberk offers beautiful color contrasts. In summer it can be hot in the historic building, while in winter access to certain parts of the conservation can be limited due to snow and ice. We recommend arriving in the morning when the light for shooting is the most advantageous and the street Planava is less crowded tourists.

You can easily visit the monument on foot if you are in the centre of Štramberk or by car. If you come from a larger city, consider using public transport, which links Štramberk to the surrounding regions; the current timetables and connections should be verified before travelling in the search engine or on the carrier's website.

For comfortable passage on the historic streets and possible terrain inequalities around the house No. 413 take fixed shoes. Depending on the season, pack an umbrella or sunglasses and a hat to enjoy your visit without inconvenience.

When shooting a grafted structure from the 1930s, focus on the details of the wooden structure and contrast between the original grafted part and later attached wall part. The best light for these images occurs in the morning or late afternoon hours, when long shadows underline the texture of wood and stone. Try to avoid direct midday sun, which can create sharp shadows and lose details in the shadows.

Since there are no specific places in the area within 30 minutes of walking on the ground, we recommend focusing on the atmosphere of the Plaňava street and surrounding city conservation. For families with children this location is suitable as a short walk where they can observe historical architecture. Children can be fascinated by the difference between old wood and new walls, which can be explained as a story of how houses have changed and expanded in the past.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring - In March and April the house is surrounded by flowering shrubs and trees, light penetrates through fresh green leaves and creates fine shadows in the interior. There are fewer visitors in this period, so you can also browse the exhibition in the late afternoon. We recommend to wear a light jacket against colder wounds and comfortable shoes because the surrounding roads are still slightly slippery after the rain. The best time is between 10 and 14 hours when the light is most stable.

Summer - In the summer months the sun waters the house with bright light, which highlights the historical details of stone walls and wooden beams. However, in the main summer season there is a higher attendance rate, especially in the afternoon. We recommend arriving early in the morning, preferably before 10 o'clock, and choose light, breathable clothes with hat or sunglasses because the outdoor area is often lit by direct sun. Take a bottle of water and prepare for longer fronts at the front door.

Autumn - Leaves on the surrounding hills get golden and red shades, creating a romantic atmosphere and soft lighting in the interior of the house. In this period the crowds are smaller than in summer, but the weather can be variable - from cold morning to rainy afternoon. Layer clothes, fixed shoes and umbrella are suitable. The best time to visit is between 11:00 and 15:00, when the light is most pleasant and the temperature is most stable.

Winter - In winter the house is covered in quiet snow, the windows are covered with fine fog and the lighting inside is cozy. The opening time is shorter and it is colder inside, so it is necessary to have a warm coat, hat, gloves and tight shoes with anti-slip soles. We recommend arriving after noon, when the sun most often appears in the sky, and take advantage of the quieter atmosphere after afternoon visitor tips. In winter, it is advisable to monitor the current information on the site of the monument, because some days may be limited entry.
