dům čp. 72 v Jáchymově Parish house
House No. 72 in Jáchymov is a Renaissance patrician building in the Republic Square. In the past, the upper office was based here. This important monument belongs to the urban monument zone and is part of the Mining Cultural Landscape Jáchymov, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Renaissance core of the house comes from the first stage of construction of the city from 1516-1520. In 1518, according to Jáchymov's upper order, a tithe was set up. This suggests that the construction was created at the same time as the provision of this office.
This typical Patrician house is significantly superior to the surrounding buildings with its power. It stands in the western front of buildings in the upper part of the city, in the former Schottenberg district, about 50 to 60 metres from the historic Mint and Renaissance Town Hall. It's a brick, two-storey object with a saddle roof; the front part is connected to the rear wing around the square yard. The facade with six window axes is broken by pilasters. They are rustic on the ground floor, Doric on the first floor and Corinthians on the second. The facade is horizontally divided by profiled ledge. Above the windows are original Renaissance lining supplemented with Baroque ornaments. The rich stucco decoration of the first floor includes plant ornaments, mascarons, yaks and two reliefs of semi-figures of miner and Roman emperor. On the second floor they decorate the windows of the vaults with mascaron, rokaj and plant ornament. The Renaissance entrance portal on the right side of the house has flat nobodies, console seats and canopy with archivolta. The interior reflects the original official function; from the street enters an unusually large hall, which served visitors to collect the tithe fee. In the basement there is a arched corridor with a channel that provided water drain from the Svornost mine.
In 1722, the merchant Johann Christoph Haas purchased the building for his son Johann Wenzel. Later, it was won by the royal tithes collector Johann Míesl von Zeileisen with his wife Maria Barbara. According to them, the construction began to be referred to as the Zeileisen house. In 1851, the building became the seat of the dean. In the second half of the 20th century, the building was owned by the Association of Czechoslovak Publishers, based in Prague. It is currently owned by a private company.
The house in history burned down several times. In 1538, the fire hit the city hall and the mint, which led to a later reconstruction of Renaissance elements. Another fire in 1782 forced repair in the late Baroque style, which affected today's facade appearance.
Today house No. 72 is listed among the endangered monuments of the Karlovy Vary Region. Although the owner has performed rescue work in recent years, such as roof repair or roof replacement, the construction is in a state of emergency and the reconstruction remains unfinished. Despite this, the building is an important witness to the rich history of the upper Jáchymova. It is advisable to include it in the tour of the historical core when visiting the city.
