Although we now know much more modern techniques, this building reminds us of the beginnings of an organized fire brigade in our territory.

The dominant thing that immediately attracts vision is the central three-story tower. This tower is not only a decorative element, but it had a very specific and practical purpose. It was used as a hose oven. During the time when the hoses were made from materials which required a thorough drying after use to avoid rotting and remaining functional, the hoses were hung vertically in this tower to naturally drain water from them. Look up at the end of the tower. You will see the saddle roof, which gives the construction its characteristic profile and harmonically closes the entire vertical axis of the building.

Around this main tower are adjacent small ground wings. Note how these wings complement the main tower and create a compact but functional whole. This part of the building was probably used to store cars, pumps and other equipment that had to be ready for immediate exit. Now if you look down to the foundation of the building, notice the stone suspect. It was this stone base that ensured the stability of the whole structure and protected the masonry from moisture from the surrounding terrain, which was a standard and very reasonable solution at the time.

Even if we can't find the names of specific personalities in the files, there is a story of anonymity and dedication in every piece of wood. Imagine the morning fog of 1890, the sound of the hoof of horses pulling a fire truck and the disciplined movement of the men who found their place in this armory. It was places of pride where she learned responsibility and cooperation.

You may be wondering why this building is so important today. Since 2005, the firehouse in Hlučín has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. That's not just a formal term.
