Hrad u Bílovic Hillfort
Hrad u Bílovic is an ancient archaeological site located near the village of Bílovice-Lutotín in the district of Prostějov. It is a castle with an oval plan and an area of approximately 1.5 hectares, which was inhabited in neolithic and eneolite and is today protected as a cultural monument.
The estate was inhabited in neolithic culture with Moravian painted ceramics. In the eneolite there lived representatives of the culture of funnel cups. The last traces of the settlement come from the period of the Hallatians and belong to the paying culture.
The fort lies on the island over the right bank of the river Romže at an altitude of 335 metres, with an altitude above the valley floor reaching up to 60 metres. On the southwest side, where the location is surrounded by a nameless stream, the drop is only about 30 meters. The fortification is located in the connecting seat on the south and south-east side and comes from the beginning of the middle eneolite. It consists of a pair of waves ten metres away, between which there is an inner moat of three metres wide. The outside wall is smaller and also protects the side side of the bay. Archaeological research revealed two building phases of the inner wall. The older fortifications consisted of palisades, while the younger phase had a front stone wall, reinforced by the construction of vertical wooden stakes. However, this wall construction was not completed.
The first archaeological findings on the site were obtained by students from Bílovice in 1884-1885. The oldest research was carried out by Inocenc Ladislav Červinka in 1898, and one year later he collaborated with Antonín Gottwald. Gottwald returned to the castle in 1924 when he carried out joint research with K. Dobeš. In 1983, the area between the north-east and south-west of the trench was explored and in 2001, research was carried out on the wall with part of the inner trench.
The location is located about three kilometres from Lutotín above the railway station Zdětin u Prostějov on the line Prostějov -Chornice. This monument represents an important point for understanding the development of prehistoric settlements and building techniques in the region. It is advisable to visit it to examine the remains of ancient fortifications.

Tips for visitors
The best time to visit the castle is late afternoon when the sun shines across the Romje River and highlights the shapes of archaeological structures in the field. For history lovers, the ideal period is when vegetation is lower and the remains of fortifications are better visible.
Since it is an archaeological site in the natural environment, we recommend that you bring comfortable shoes suitable for uneven terrain and plenty of drinking water.
For photography are the best places overlooking the course of the castle fortification and close flow. Soft light during the morning or evening hours ensures best results.
Families with children can use the site to explore nature and history in an open space, but care must be taken for the uneven terrain and proximity to the flow.

Seasonal recommendations
Spring brings fresh energy to archeological sites thanks to awakening vegetation and fine, soft light, which beautifully highlights stone structures. The green colour of the surrounding area creates a pleasant contrast with the grey remains of the castle walls. For visiting it is best to choose the morning hours when the air is the cleanest. We recommend to prepare for variable temperatures and select layered clothing to protect you from morning cold and afternoon heat.
In the summer months the lighting is very intense and the sun hits the open spaces of the ruins, which is ideal for detailed observation of traces of history. Due to the main summer season and the higher number of visitors it is best to arrive early in the morning or in late afternoon to avoid the greatest heat and crowds. Remember the high-quality headgear, plenty of water and light clothing suitable for field movements.
The autumn season offers a unique atmosphere where leaf colours around the castle create a golden and brown frame for historical ruins. The foggy morning gives the place a mysterious and melancholy touch, which is perfectly suited to the archaeological character of the monument. Due to the wet surface and the variable weather, it is necessary to wear waterproof shoes and laminated clothing combinations. It's the best time for a quiet observation without the burden of tourists.
Zimą makes the castle at Bílovice crude and uncompromising, especially when the trees are without leaves and reveal wider contours of ruins. The atmosphere is quiet, lonely and very calm, allowing deep perception of history in the cold air. Due to low temperatures and shorter daylight, it is necessary to wear a very warm and windproof jacket. Take care when walking, because the terrain can be slippery during this period.
