kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie (Ždánice) Church
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a Roman Catholic temple in Ždánice in the district of Hodonín and serves as the parish church of the parish Ždánice. It is listed in the list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic.
The history of the church is closely linked to the demise of its medieval predecessor. The original parish temple dedicated to St. Bartholomew stood on the west bank of the Ždánice creek, approximately in the middle of the beaker's village, in the space between the streets of the rough side and the small side. There was no trace of this medieval building today - it was demolished in 1795. Her gradual successor was the early Baroque Mariana Chapel, which dates back to 1672. In 1701 there was a major reconstruction when the chapel was extended and transformed into the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. After his consecration, he was promoted to the parish church and thus took over the pastoral-administrative function that had been carried out by the demolished building of St. Bartholomew until then.
Architectural is a one-ship rectangular structure built on a cross plan. The priesthood is closed half-circle, the prism tower rises above the presbytery. The facades break down the framing skis that form the rhythmic structure of the facade. The facade ends with a low triangular shield and breaks through a rectangular window with a stone sheathing and a wedge. The date number 1701 is engraved above the main entrance, which resembles the period of reconstruction. The roof is saddled with a beam roof.
The interior of the ship is structured by pairs of pilasters with headers that carry a continuous ledge and create optical wall breakdown. The ship is blown with a Valen Vault with lunettes, which is a typical element of baroque architecture. Half-circle chapel is inserted between the ship and the priesthood, which also contain nobodies. These solutions have substantially enriched the space of the middle ship. There was a walled crust above the entrance to the ship. The walls of the priestess are divided in the same way as the walls of the ship, thus achieving visual harmony entre main architectural elements.
The church represents a typical Baroque temple architecture of the time when a new European style was promoted in Czech countries. The conversion of the chapel into a church in 1701 meant not only the expansion of the inner space, but also an increase in the status of the parish. Today, the church is one of the central architectural elements of Ždanice and its plasticity and design solution still attracts the attention of those who look at it. The function of the parish church is preserved to this day.

The parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Ždánice in the Hodonín district is a Roman Catholic church and a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
Its origins date back to 1672, when an early Baroque Marian chapel stood here. In 1701 it was rebuilt into the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which after consecration was elevated to parish status. Until then, this role was performed by the medieval church of Saint Bartholomew. It stood on the western bank of Ždánický stream, roughly in the middle of the Ždánice village square, which is formed by the streets Hrubá strana and Malá strana. The old church was demolished in 1795.
Today's church is a single-nave rectangular building on a cruciform floor plan. The choir is enclosed in a semicircle and above it rises a prismatic tower. A tower above the choir is not something we often come across here; usually it stands in the facade.
The facades are divided by framing pilasters, that is, shallow vertical strips projecting from the wall. The facade ends with a low triangular gable. It is pierced by a rectangular window with stone frame. Above the main entrance is marked the date 1701, the year of the rebuilding into a church. The building is covered with a saddle roof.
The walls of the nave are divided by pairs of pilasters. Their capitals bear a cornice that runs around the entire space. The nave is vaulted with a barrel vault with lunettes and above the entrance is a brick gallery. Between the nave and the choir are inserted two semicircular chapels with niches, which give the building its cruciform shape. The walls of the choir are divided similarly to the walls of the nave, so the interior appears unified.

For kids
Imagine going back 354 years and stopping in the village town of Zdánice. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stood here as a royal crown, its white walls shining like a shining stripe in the blue sky.
Many people lived here, taking care of the church and its surroundings. They were priests who read Bible stories from the altar, and local people who prayed and collected sacrifices for their earthly and heavenly homeland. There was also a salt merchant who sold his goods in the markets and in his spa.

Seasonal recommendations
The spring visit brings with it a feeling of renewal, when the surrounding landscape turns green and the first flowers begin to bloom around the church. Lighting is soft during this period and very pleasant to capture details of sacral architecture. I recommend arriving in the morning when the air is the purest. Due to the variable weather, it is worth taking several layers of clothing which can be easily added or removed as needed.
During the summer months, the monument is covered in thick leaves and the surroundings are very lively due to intense sunlight. The atmosphere is hot and full of life, which can attract more people. To avoid the greatest heat and possible crowds, it is best to arrive immediately after opening or late afternoon. Don't forget enough fluids and sun protection.
Autumn season offers the most peaceful atmosphere where the church is surrounded by golden and brown shades of leaves. The morning fog gives the place a mysterious and melancholy touch that perfectly matches the historical character of the building. It's the perfect time for people looking for silence and contemplation. For a walk around I recommend choosing stronger shoes because the path can be moist, and don't forget the warmer layer of clothing.
In winter time the church is in contrast with bare trees and possible snow very majestic. The day is short, which creates a specific game of shadows and light. In Advent Time there is a special spiritual peace. It is necessary to prepare for lower temperatures and carefully verify the current opening times, which are usually shorter in this period. Hot clothes and high-quality shoes are absolutely essential.
