Kostel svaté Barbory (Adamov) Church
The New Gothic Church of St. Barbara in Adamov was founded between 1855 and 1857 according to plans of Viennese architect Josef Hieser. The building was financed by Prince Alois Liechtenstein, who worked on the position not only of the temple but also of the surrounding church - parish. The church was consecrated on 4 December 1857 by the Jedi Dean Václav Šíšem. A coordinated urban ensemble was created with the temple: a new rectory, a school building and a cemetery, all carried out in a unified Gothic style.
The exterior of the church creates a harmonious picture of neo-gothic architecture. It is a single-boat structure made of a red brick masonry, oriented along the axis in a clear ground plan of a rectangle, transiting into a five-sided priesthood. The construction measures to a length of 26 metres and a width of 10 metres. The side walls of the ship break through three vertically arranged windows with nimble wedges and decorated circles. The same style is also equipped with a priesthood with five window axes. The north and south facades strengthen the two-step support pillars that structure the area. The western facade dominates a high-tip shield, transited through a rectangular entrance. There are three windows of different sizes above the entrance with the same gothic decoration. The peak of the shield is decorated with an open bell tower with two bells. Roofs - saddle above the boat and valb above the priesthood - are covered with a burnt bag.
The interior of the temple reflects the richness of the ancient times. The ship is surrounded by three arches of cross rib arches separated passports, the priestess has its own rib arches. Главный altar is a wooden carved, closing - its central part bears the image of St. Barbara, on folding wings are depicted St. Joseph and St. John the Baptist. In the interior it is dominated by the Shining Altar, a wooden art treasure transferred here from the Lower Austrian Cistercian monastery in Zwett. This is the ultimate work of late goth from 1516 to 1525, carved from lime wood. The altar reaches a height of over 7 metres and contains 59 plastic-worked characters. Since 1 July 2010, this magnificent sculpture is one of the national cultural monuments. The temple is echoed by one-manual organ with seven registers built by the leading Moravian firm Rieger of Krnova in 1926 under the number opus 2229.
The Church of St. Barbara and associated rectory are protected as cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. The exceptional altar of Light bears the status of a national cultural monument. The church is worth a visit mainly for an authentic reminder of the 19th century and especially for one of the most valuable medieval statues in the Czech churches - The Librarian altar, which was preserved for future generations.

The Church of Saint Barbara is the parish church of Adamov parish. It was built by Prince Alois Lichtenstein between 1855 and 1857 according to a design by Viennese architect Josef Hieser. It was consecrated on December 4, 1857 by Václav Stříž, dean of Jedovnice. Together with the church, a rectory, a school building, and a cemetery were also built, all in the same style. The church and rectory are protected as cultural monuments.
The building is neo-gothic, single-nave, and oriented. It has a rectangular ground plan, which is closed off by a five-sided choir. The walls are made of exposed red brick. The church is 26 meters long and 10 meters wide. In each side wall of the nave there are three tall windows with pointed arches and tracery; in the choir there are five windows. A parapet cornice runs below the windows. Between the windows of the nave and at the corners of the choir stand stepped buttresses.
The western façade has a rectangular entrance in the middle and above it three windows of unequal size with pointed arches. The façade ends in a pointed gable with an oriel wall and an open belfry, where two bells hang in niches. The nave is covered with a saddle roof, the choir with a hip roof, both made of fired tiles.
Inside, the nave is vaulted by three sections of cross-ribbed vault, which separate the passages. The choir also has a ribbed vault. The main altar is wooden, carved, and folding. In the middle is an image of Saint Barbara, and on the wings are Saint Joseph and Saint John the Baptist.
The most valuable work in the church is the side altar, the so-called Světelský altar. It comes from the Cistercian monastery in Zwettl in Lower Austria and was created between 1516 and 1525. It is carved from linden wood, measures over 7 meters, and bears 59 figures. It belongs to the outstanding works of late gothic and has been a national cultural monument since July 1, 2010.
The single-manual organ with seven stops was built in 1926 by the Krnov firm Rieger.

Thematic cruise route: Adamov - Baroque spirit and natural beauty
1. Church of St. Barbara The main dominant part of the village is the Gothic-Baroque church from the 14th century, which boasts an impressive tower and richly decorated interior. The Baroque altar and the historic tombstones in the cemetery are particularly valuable.
2. Fara Adamov In the church area there is a Baroque rectory from 1857, which served as a seat of the clergy. Its classical facade and original disposition offer a view of the life of priests in the past.
3. Castle Adamov The Baroque chateau from the 18th century is approximately a mile from the church, now private. Its architecture and surrounding park represent a rare example of rural nobility. Entry is possible only with permission of the owner.
4. National Nature Reservation Chopper A unique reservation with beech forests and rock formations is located approximately 3 km from the centre. Ideal for walking and observing nature, especially in spring and summer.
The route combines spiritual monuments with natural wealth, each point offering a specific view of the history and landscape of Adamova.
Seasonal recommendations
Spring The spring at St. Barbara's Church offers a unique atmosphere where the sun's rays penetrate glass windows and illuminate historical paintings and stone details. The surroundings of the church awaken to life - green meadows and forests spread around, which provide a pleasant, peaceful visit. The inner spaces are lit with fine, natural light, which highlights the detail of church fresco and Gothic elements. In this period it is ideal to visit the church in mild weather, where you can walk through the surrounding parks and enjoy a quiet, almost meditative atmosphere. I recommend wearing light, but headgear, because the church often moves cooler air. The best time is morning or afternoon when there are fewer visitors and you can enjoy the church in peace.
Summer Summer brings a lively, but sometimes busy atmosphere to St. Barbara's church where many tourists come. The sun illuminates the church facade and creates contrasting shadows that emphasize Gothic details. The surrounding area is green, full of flowers and pleasant warmth, creating a pleasant environment for walks. In the summer months, however, larger crowds must be expected, especially in the high season. I recommend to come earlier in the morning when the church is still calm, and avoid the noon hours when the most visitors are. Put on light, but the headgear, because the interior is colder. You can complete the tour by visiting nearby parks and green areas, offering pleasant relaxation places.
Autumn The autumn visit of St. Barbara's church is magical, when the sun shines through leafy trees and creates golden and brown shades on the church walls. The surrounding area is transformed into a colour palette, which provides a calm, reflexive mood for visitors. The inside of the church is lit by a lighter light, which creates a quiet, almost mystical environment. In this period the traffic is lower, which allows a quiet tour without rush. I recommend wearing warmer clothes, because autumn days are colder, and bring an umbrella with you because precipitation is more common. The best time to visit is in the afternoon when there is a pleasant light outside and you can enjoy a quiet atmosphere without crowds.
Winter The winter visit to St. Barbara's church offers a unique atmosphere where snowflakes fall on historical stone details and create a magical picture. The interior of the church is lit with artificial light, which creates a warm, cozy atmosphere, ideal for relaxing on cold days. The surrounding area is covered with a white blanket that gives the whole place peace and quiet. I recommend wearing warm clothes, including headgear, and avoiding visiting when the church is closed. The best time to visit is in the afternoon when there is light out and you can enjoy a quiet atmosphere without crowds.
