Kostel svatého Havla (Rožďalovice) Church

The church of St. Havel in Rozhalovice, located in Nymburk, in the Central Bohemian Region, is a baroque building built between 1726 and 1733. This church is not only an important religious sanctuary for local people, but is a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958. His history dates back to the Gothic church, which was demolished in the early 18th century.

The creation of the new building is closely connected to the family of Valdštejnů, especially Count Václav Josef of Valdštejn, who sought a more exhibition sanctuary. On the site of today's temple stood a smaller Gothic church, which was replaced by a new Baroque building. The church was built according to designs reflecting the rich architecture and art of the Baroque era, characterized by centralization of power and the development of religious institutions. In 1733 the church was completed and consecrated.

Architecturally, St. Havel's church is oriented south, with its main facade decorated by pilasters and portals. The shield ends with a triangular tympanone. There are statues of saints such as St. Joseph, St. Zikmund, St. Peter and Paul, St. Barboro, St. Wenceslas and St. John Nepomucký in the nineyards on the façade. The oldest preserved object in the church is a Chinese baptist from 1457. An important part of the interior is the baroque organ, which dates back to 1750 and was brought here from the abolished Augustinian monastery in Lysá nad Labem. The main altar of the church was produced in 1725, while on the side altar there is a pilgrimage painting of the Virgin Mary of Karmelská from the 18th century.

The church has undergone several reconstruction and modifications during its history. In 1836-1838 a major reconstruction was carried out, followed by further modifications in 1912 and during World War II. The original cemetery around the church has until today been preserved only partially, with several tombstones from the first half of the 19th century.

In the north tower of the church there are two historical bells: one cast by Jan Pricquey in 1684 and the other cast by Ondrej Bird in 1479. These bells add another historical value to the church.

Today, the Church of St. Havel is not only an important cultural and historical monument, but also an active religious centre. Regular services are held on Sundays at 9: 00 and Thursday at 5: 00. For tourists and historically curious people, St. Havel's Church in Rozhalovice is a reminder of the region's rich history and its architectural heritage, which deserves attention.
