Moravolen was a major textile company based in Šumperk, which specialized in complex flax processing. The company with an extensive network of branches in North Moravia was one of the largest textile operations in Czechoslovakia.

The company's history dates back to the early nineteenth century. In 1827 Eduard Oberleithner founded bleach and apretova in Šumperk. Later, in 1841, Kašpar Eisenbach built a mill of flax in Vrbno, under Pradad.

In 1858 Kašpar Eisenbach sold its factory to Adolf Raymann, who modernized it and equipped it with new machines, making it an efficient machine mill. In 1958, former establishments were transformed and nationalised, officially creating Moravolen. In 1972 the company was taken over by the current co-owner Eduard Grohmann, who focused on further expansion of production.

The company had weaving yards, mills and stationery. He specialized in the production of Damascus table and bed sets that had worldwide sales. The company also produced linen goods with vetoed company characters to order. In 1997, a holding company was established bringing together subsidiaries in Bruntal, Jeseník and Šumperk. However, this structure did not last and in 1999 Moravolen Šumperk declared bankruptcy.

Today, the former branch in Jeseník is owned by Woox. The premises are used for the organisation of cultural events of the type site specific, for example the festival of Jesních.

The history of Moravolen is an important chapter in the industrial development of North Moravia. Visiting the premises in Jeseník allows you to see the world of the former textile industry.

Welcome to Sumperk, the place where history intersects with the industrial spirit of the past century. You are standing right in front of a monument that, in its greatest glory, represented much more than just ordinary factory buildings. In front of you is the space that once was home to thousands of workers and the center of textile creation. Feel the atmosphere of this place and try to imagine the noise of machines, the noise of linen fabrics and the constant movement of people who made up the history of the Czechoslovak industry daily. Although there is no more noisy production on the premises, the walls of these buildings still tell the story of ambition, hard work and craft championships.

Let us now return together in time to make it clearer how this place has been reached. The roots of this enterprise go back deep into the early nineteenth century, until the world began to change, and craft production gradually retreated to large factory operations. It all began in 1827, when Eduard Oberleithner built a bleach and an apretum here. You might wonder what an apretum is. It was a place where fabrics were finally finished, modified and obtained their final form and quality so that they could be sold to customers. It was a strategic decision that laid the foundation for everything that came later.

But history did not stop only in Šumperk. The company gradually grew and expanded. In 1841, Kašpar Eisenbach founded a mill of flax in Vrbno, under Pradad. By doing so, the company began to focus more on the processing of the raw material itself, namely the overturning of flax in the yarn from which the fabric was subsequently woven. It was a time of great change and technological progress. Another major breakthrough came in 1858 when the factory was taken over by Adolf Raymann. He was the visionary who turned the traditional mill into a modern machine mill. Imagine the contrast between the manual rendition and the thunder of the first large machines that could produce multiple times more substances in a much shorter time. It was at this time that a giant began to develop from the local company, which dominated a vast network of branches throughout North Moravia.

Now that you're standing in front of the buildings, pay attention to their overall appearance. Although we do not know the names of the particular architects who designed these structures, note the functionality and dimensions of the facade. The industrial architecture of the time was not primarily about ornaments, but about efficiency, light and space. Look at the extent of the complex and think about how many flax fibers flowed through it. Feel the rhythm of the windows and the structure of the walls that had to lift the vibration of heavy machines. It is the architecture of labor and productivity, which was to serve thousands of people and thousands of meters of fabric.

The key figures that formed the face of this place were Eduard Oberleithner, Kašpar Eisenbach and Adolf Raymann, but we must not forget Eduardo Grohmann. These men weren't just owners or managers, they were people who understood material and saw potential in flax. Len was the basic building block of the textile industry at the time. The company specialized in the complex production and processing of flax and in particular the production of Damascus sets. Damascus is a special type of fabric with fine pattern, which can be seen thanks to the different lighting of threads. They were luxury products that traveled to homes all over the land and beyond. Imagine the precise patterns and the feeling of the quality linen cloth that was created here.

But time passed, and political change came with it. There was a major transformation in 1958. The company called Moravolen was nationalized within the then social system. Under this name, the company became one of the largest textile plants in Czechoslovakia. Moravolen was not just an employer, it was a symbol of the industrial power of the region. Thousands of people in North Moravia were associated with that name. It was an era of mass production, when flax products became more accessible, but at the same time a part of the original, artisanal individuality from the days of Raymann and Eisenbach was lost.

Maybe now you're interested in one interesting thing that gives the whole story a deeper dimension. Moravolen was not just one factory, but a whole network of interconnected plants. This means that the raw material could travel from one place to another, go through different stages of processing in different cities of North Moravia and eventually join in Šumperk into the finished product. It was an early version of the modern logistics chain. It is fascinating to think about how this network was coordinated at a time when computers and the Internet did not exist, and everything was done through letters, telegrams and personal meetings.

But God also has the greatest power. The world changed in the second half of the twentieth century. New materials, synthetics and cheaper production came from other parts of the world. Len, who was once king, began to lose his position. The company tried to adapt, but the market pressures and changes in the economy were too strong. The peak of this decline came in 1999 when Moravolen Šumperk declared bankruptcy. That was the end of a great era. The quiet space you see today is a reminder of the time when textile was the main engine of development throughout the region.

Now, if you look around you, you may experience some sadness at the end of such an empire, but let's try to look at it differently. These buildings are witnessing human efforts. They are proof of how an industrial giant may have evolved from a small bleach in 1827. Every stone and every wall here carries a trail of generations of workers, weavers and weavers who have spent most of their lives here.

Let us now slowly say goodbye to this part of our trip. I suggest you now walk quietly around the premises, see the details of the facade and let your thoughts float freely in the history of flax and textile craft. Try to imagine what the city of Šumperk would look like if Moravolen still worked with its power. What a street full of people in working beaches would look like and what air smells like around the factory.

Thank you for your attention and for taking this short journey through time with me. I hope you were interested in the story of Moravolen and that you perceived the spirit of this place. Now invited to further explore the surroundings and discover other hidden corners of our city. I wish you a pleasant continued journey and many new, inspiring experiences. Goodbye.

Themed route

Moravolen is a unique natural service that attracts visitors with its wild beauty and historical background. Since no specific surroundings are listed in the assignment, we will focus solely on exploring the monument itself and its immediate premises. The route is designed to allow a deeper insight into the geological and historical layers of this place.

Moravolen Type: Natural monument, rock formation Why is it worth a visit: This is a massive boulder, located at the foot of the hill and forming a dominant landscape. Seasonal recommendations

In spring Moravolen comes to life thanks to flowering flowers and fresh green, which surrounds old walls. The light is delicate and very photogenic in this period. We recommend wearing layered clothes because the wounds can still be cold even if they get warm during the day. It's an ideal time for a quieter tour without large groups of tourists.

In the summer months there is the most life but also the highest temperatures. The sun shines the strongest and the landscape is full of dense vegetation. Because of the great crowds and the heat, it is best to arrive immediately after opening to ensure your shadow and peace. Don't forget enough water, headgear and light, breathable clothes.

Autumn brings gold colours and morning fog to the surroundings of Moravolen, which provide a mysterious atmosphere. The sun is low, which creates beautiful shadows on historical details. It is advisable to carry a waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes because the weather can change quickly. The morning hours offer the best lighting conditions.

Winter is a place of very quiet and raw impression, especially when snow falls. The days are short and light is weak, which highlights the silvery shades of the surroundings. The necessity is very warm and wind-resistant clothes. Due to the limited time of day and possible freezes, plan to visit when the most light is, and watch out for slippery surfaces.
