Radnice v Čelákovicích is a neo-Baroque building from 1910-1911, located on the main square on May 5. Since 3 May 1958 it has been registered as a cultural monument and serves as an administrative centre of the city.

Čelákovice has been recognised as a city since 1847, but local administration has worked before, as evidenced by commemorative books from 1366- 1557. At this time, the property belonged to the family Rokycansky and later to the masters of the Landlords of the Landscape. The board meeting was held at the house of the speedster or the magistrate. The first independent town hall on the site of the current building probably arose between 1551 and 1554, built in late Gothic or early Renaissance style. During the Thirty Years' War, it was damaged by troops several times and hit in 1719 by a great fire that destroyed it strongly. After the fire, it was temporarily repaired and supported by an attached arch, removed during a thorough reconstruction in 1795.

In the 19th century the condition of the original town hall deteriorated, which in 1865 the mayor Antonín Žebrák described as poor. At the end of the century, the tower was repaired and the vault was removed on the ground floor. In 1897 a metal eagle fell from the tower, which damaged the roof; he was then replaced by a two-tail lion from the local locksmith Josef Křesadel. In 1908 a telephone station was set up in the building.

At the beginning of the 20th century he assessed the state of the building architect and art historian Jan Herain, who designed a new town hall in the same place because of the need for expensive repairs. In 1907, the city council bought the neighboring houses no. 2, 3 and 4 for the needs of a new town hall and a city school. Following the processing of the documents by Constantine Sax, Ferdinand Bláha's proposal was accepted in 1910. The mayor has publicly justified the demolition of the old town hall by its shoddy and threat of disintegration.

The construction was carried out in 1910-1911 by Josef Novotný's company from Hradec Králové, financed by loans from the Brandýs nad Labem Regional Economic Reserve and the Hradec Králové Credit Institute. The conditions of the contract were the employment of local craftsmen and workers. The tower clock, stones, windows, doors with frames and the lion's mark on top were preserved.

The ceremonial opening of the town hall took place on 28 September 1911, with the participation of several hundred people. After opening the town council decided that the building would be used publicly and for the needs of the municipality. There were financial disputes between the city and the construction company regarding the construction bill, which resulted in an action before the county court. The city paid the required amount in March 1913 and in 1914 there was a super-housekeeping closing construction.

The building is a corner one-storey Neo-Baroque building with Art Nouveau elements. The main facade is oriented into the square and shrouded with a mansard roof. The dominance is a four-sided clock tower with a circumferential balcony, supported by a wheelbarrow. The tower ends with an onion pit with lantern and metal Czech left on top. The south facade is divided into five parts, above the door the number of the house is given No. 1 / II. The original door, window openings, wooden tiles, railing with staircase and part of the original mobiliary were preserved in the interior.

In later years, the building did not undergo major structural changes, only minor repairs of the facade and adaptations. In 1990 President Václav Havel visited the city hall, accompanied by Chancellor Karl Schwarzenberg.

Radnice v Čelákovicích represents an important architectural element of the city centre and testifies about its development at the turn of the century. Its preserved interior and characteristic tower make it an interesting destination for every visitor.

Welcome to the heart of Čelákovice. Right now you're standing in the main square, in a place that is an artery to the entire neighborhood and where the everyday life of the locals meets a deep history. In front of your eyes is an impressive city hall building that dominates this space with its presence. Before we take a closer look at her history, just stop for a moment. Feel its size, feel its calm dignity and how harmonically it fits into the overall picture of the square. This building is not just an ordinary official house, it is a symbol of the stability and continuity of this city.

Now, if you look at its present form, you will see a structure that will immediately enchant you with its elegance. This town hall, which you are now observing, was built in the years one thousand nine hundred ten to one thousand nine hundred eleven. Her style is neo-Baroque, which means that architects at the time wanted to revive and celebrate the richness and shapes of the old baroque, but in a more modern and clean concept. The main creator of this work was Mr Ferdinand Bláha. Look at her facade and see the effort for the nobility that this style brings. Even if it's not the original baroque structure, you feel the effort to create a place that gives rise to respect and importance.

However, in order to fully understand the importance of this place, we must return much further to the past. The history of this square and town hall is much more complex and dramatic than it may seem. This building you see is actually the new birth of something older. Before this Neo-Baroque town hall was built, there was a completely different building. She was much older and told stories from different times. Its architecture was late Gothic, perhaps early Renaissance. Imagine the period markets, the human destinies at that time and the other atmosphere that once ruled here.

Unfortunately, history for this place has not always been about beauty and bloom. The city and its town hall had to face many trials. One of the biggest wounds was a devastating 30-year war. During this period, the original town hall was severely damaged. Wars bring uncertainty and destruction, and even this place is a victim of these dark times. But that wasn't the end of misery. Another big test came in a thousand seven hundred nineteen. In that year, the city was struck by a huge and devastating fire that left only ashes from the original town hall. Imagine the horror and the loss that people experienced back then when they saw their important symbol go up in flames.

And that's where the incredible power of this place lies. Even after the destruction caused by the war and the complete destruction of the fire, the city never gave up. After long years, the city hall finally recovered. So the building you see now is the result of a huge effort, an effort to rebuild and the city's desire to have its face again. When you look at these walls, you look at evidence of human endurance. This town hall from the early 20th century is not just an architectural work, it is a symbol of victory over time and misery.

Now pay attention to how this building is perceived today. It's more than just a place for officials. Since the year one thousand nine hundred fifty eight, this town hall has been registered as a cultural monument. This status gives her special weight. It means that its beauty, its historical significance and its architectural value are extremely valuable to all of us and we must protect them for future generations. It is proof that what Ferdinand Bláha created is of enormous value to our culture and to the identity of the city of Čelákovice.

Stop for a moment and try to imagine all the people who went through this square a hundred years ago when City Hall was new. Imagine those who came here to deal with their affairs, and those who just stopped to look at this new, beautiful building. And then try to go back even further, to those who stood here in the time of Gothic or Renaissance, and who looked with fear at the smoke from the fire or at a distance approaching the troops. This town hall is like a silent witness to all these moments.

There's one interesting thing that might interest you. Although today the town hall appears to be a solid and immutable point, its existence has always been conditional on people's ability to adapt and rebuild. Every era has left its mark here, although the most visible is the current one. The invisible, hidden in the memory of the place, is just as important.

I hope that this brief view of City Hall history in Čelákovice has helped you better understand the place you are currently in. Before you go further down the main square, just take another look at this building. Feel her beauty, but also the depth of history that lies beneath her surface. The city has many other interesting places and stories that await your discovery. I wish you a nice walk around Čelákovice and enjoy every moment you spend in this wonderful environment. Goodbye.
