Rychvald is a historical monument located about 1.5 kilometers from Lysice in the Blansko district of Jihomoravský kraj. This castle ruin, dating back to around 1400, was built by members of the Kunštát family and recognized as a cultural heritage site for its medieval significance. The remnants offer insights into architectural styles and the strategic importance of castles in Bohemia's turbulent history.

The origins of Rychvald trace back to the mid-14th century when it was constructed by the Kunštát family, likely under Kuna III. z Kunštátu a Lysic. It served as a stronghold for his descendants, including Ješek Puška z Kunštátu, documented at Rychvald by 1371. Initially intended to fortify the Kunštát family's regional influence, it became embroiled in political disputes leading to its destruction and subsequent rebuilding.

Architecturally, Rychvald was a two-part castle with wooden and stone structures. The bailey had a triangular shape, measuring 30 by 25 meters, likely protected by ditches and ramparts on two sides. A substantial stone keep formed the core, with dimensions of 55 by 30 meters, lacking a tower to indicate a unique architectural approach combining plášťová (shell) and palácová (palatial) elements. Defensive features included a wide ditch up to 18 meters across on the access side and another measuring 17 meters in width and 6.5 meters deep, partially cut into rock.

Ownership changed hands several times due to political and familial dynamics. After Ješek Puška z Kunštátu's death, his four sons inherited the castle, each adopting it as part of their name. In 1375, during a dispute involving the Kunštát family and Margrave John Henry, Brno citizens destroyed Rychvald. It was soon rebuilt and became part of the Lysice estate by 1398. Aleš z Rychvaldu a Lysic is mentioned in connection with the site in 1421, while Hynek z Ronova a Mitrova mortgaged it to his wife in 1437.

Key events include its destruction and reconstruction in the late 14th century. The castle played a role during the Markraběcí wars when used for raids into surrounding areas by Ješek Puška z Kunštátu and successors, notably Heralta Pušku. Despite these turbulent times, Rychvald's significance waned after its destruction in the early 15th century, likely due to the extinction of the Lysice branch of the Kunštát family.

Today, Rychvald stands as a testament to medieval fortification and regional history. Although much of the original structure has been lost over time, archaeological research by František Zřídkaveselý in the 20th century uncovered significant artifacts, including iron-plated doors now displayed at Lysice Castle. Visitors can explore partially preserved staircases and defensive walls up to 2.7 meters thick.
