Spitzerova vila, located in the village of Janovice u Rýmařov in the district of Bruntál, is a historical monument set in the region of the Czech Central Mountains. It was established in the early 20th century as a family residence for the sales director of Vítkovický upper and metallurgical mining, Julius Spitzer. Its architecture reflects the Tyrolean inspiration of the 16th century, along with the artistic currents of the 1920s, making it a unique example of the Art Nouveau in the region.

In 1929 Julius Spitzer purchased land from Count Harrach and the following year he built a villa according to the design of Viennese architect Gustav Schöler. The construction was carried out by the local builder Rudolf Schubert, and in 1930 the villa was completed. Originally designed to meet the entire Spitzer family, the villa survived the occupation during which the family hid in seclusion. In 1944 Julius Spitzer was deported to a concentration camp due to its Jewish origin. After the war the villa was again used by the husband and wife of Spitzer, but after the death of J. Spitzer in 1959 it was confiscated and subsequently managed by various organizations.

The architecture of the Spitzer Villa is characterized by its Y-shaped floor plan, walled construction and shale roof with skylights. A reconstruction took place in 1996, which included the conversion of the attic into apartments for newlyweds. The facade of the villa resembles a castle and is decorated with a roof with helmets. The interior was designed in the spirit of art deco by architect František Kylou, which gives the interior a unique character.

After the war the villa was used by various organizations such as the Association of Czech writers and Teplotechna Praha. After 1989, the villa was not returned to the heirs and subsequently managed by various companies, including Land Construction a.s., Fifth Construction a.s. and Alfa Plastik a.s. In 1963 the villa was registered in the state list of cultural monuments, which confirms its historical and architectural value.

Today Spitzerova vila is private property and is not open to the public. The original equipment and interior were partially destroyed after the seizure of the villa, but some elements such as ceramic relief or tika stove with expressive atics are still preserved. The garden around the villa, designed by Professor Friedrich Henn, was originally beautiful and sunny, but over time it turned into a park garden with grown trees.

Spitzerova vila is an example of architectural art associated with rich history. Its unique design and history make it a valuable monument to the region's cultural heritage. Although not open to the public, its existence is an important reminder of the past and inspiration for future generations.

Welcome to Janovice at Rýmarov's. Stop for a moment, take a breath and look ahead. You're standing in front of a building with a story of ambition, industrial expansion and a very specific aesthetic search. In front of you is Spitzerova vila, a building that in its form tells of a dream of peace, luxury and connection with nature. The first impression that radiates from it is a sense of stability and at the same time a certain exoticism that its creator has brought into this landscape. Feel its overall atmosphere and imagine how it worked at the time of its creation, when it was a symbol of success and modern perception of housing.

Let us now move back almost a century in time. It's 1930. At this time in Janovice, the resemblance of this house begins to emerge. The villa was not created by accident, but was the result of a clear vision of one man. Its owner was Julius Spitzer, who held a very important position in the then industrial world. He served as the sales director of Vítkovický upper and metallurgical mining. Imagine the contrast in his life. On the one hand, the noise, the heat and the constant movement of the winegrowers and the mines, where the fate of many people and huge financial flows were decided. And on the other hand, it was this place, quiet Janovice, where Spitzer and his wife Josephine had to find refuge, family peace and space to rest away from the industrial smog.

Now, if you look at the very shape of the building, pay attention to its unusual nature. Spitzerova vila is not just an ordinary house of its time. It is an architectural work that was developed according to the design of Viennese architect Gustav Schöler. Vienna was the center of culture and fashion at the time, and this appears to be the result. Schöler put a very interesting combination of influences into the project. Notice how the tradition intersects with modern. The main source of inspiration was Tyrolean architecture of the 16th century. This is the element that gives the villa its specific, up to mountain character, resembling houses from Alpine valleys. At the same time, the whole building is strongly influenced by the artistic currents of the twentieth century. It's a fascinating combination of the old-world charm of Tyrol and a bold, clean approach to space that was so popular in the interwar period.

Look at the facade and see how the architect worked with the forms. Even though we see a villa today in the context of the present, try to imagine how unshakable it was in 1930. Gustav Schöler wanted to create a residence which would not only be representative, but especially cosy and compatible with the surroundings. It was the Tyrolean influence that helped the building embark on the landscape not to act as a foreign body, but as a natural part of the surroundings. It's an architecture that talks about the desire to return to craft and tradition, but knowing that we live in modern times.

This villa was home to Julia and Josefine Spitzer. Imagine their lives in these spaces. Julius, a man used to running big businesses, could take off his mantle and become a simple family man. Josefina probably married life and taste into the house, which supplemented the architectural rigour of Schöler. It was a residence designed for family happiness, social visits and quiet evenings by the fireplace while the trees of Janovice were outside. It is fascinating to think how many interviews have been conducted here and how many plans for the future have been born in these walls.

Now I want to interest you with one interesting thing that gives this place a certain dimension. Spitzerova vila is located in the village of Janovice u Rýmařov in the district of Bruntál and is a historical monument set in the Czech Central Mountains. This location in the landscape gives the construction a unique framework. It's a place where human ambition meets the beauty of nature. Another proof of its value is 1963, when the villa was officially registered in the state list of cultural monuments. This means that the state has acknowledged that this house is not only private property, but an important part of our common heritage. It is a monument to the time when architecture was experimented on and the way to combine industrial success with aesthetic value.

If you're standing in front of this building today, you may also feel a certain mystery in it. What happened in the villa after World War II? How was its use changed and how was it approached at different times in our history? Each época left its mark, but the basic skeleton and spirit of Gustav Schöler were preserved. It's like a book whose pages we browse when we look at facade details or the way the building decomposes its matter in space.

Before we say good-bye, I suggest you observe the overall composition of the villa in silence. Try to imagine what the interior would look like, which would fit such a specific exterior. Feel the contrast between Vítkovice, where steel was melting, and Janovicemi, where peace was formed. It is in this tension between work and rest, between industry and art that the real essence of Spitzer's villa lies.

Thank you for accompanying me on this short journey to the history of an extraordinary residence. I hope you were interested in Spitzerova vila's original form and story of the people who called it into existence. I now invite you to further explore the surroundings of Janovice. Perhaps you'll find other traces of the past in the landscape waiting to be discovered. I wish you a pleasant continued journey and many new experiences in discovering the beauty of our monuments. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit Spitzer's villa is autumn or spring, where it is quieter and nature offers beautiful colors. This period also provides ideal lighting conditions for photography.

When visiting, bring clothes suitable for the climate and shoes for walking. Fill your supplies with drinks because room space may not be available in the area.

For photography is the best place before the villa with its Tyrolean elements. The best way to avoid the midday sun is to look for places where trees and green fences provide shade.

The historical area of Rýmařov can be visited in the surroundings. It is suitable for families with children to explore outdoor space and beautiful nature.

Themed route

Spitzerova vila is the main goal of this short walk. This historical building in the village Janovice attracts visitors with its architectural character and atmosphere of past times. A walk around the immediate surroundings of the villa allows you to look into the life that once took place here and appreciate the details of the facade or windows.

Since there are no other specific monuments in the given area, we will focus on a detailed examination of the area itself and its immediate surroundings.

The Spitzer Villa is the first stop. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet surrounding this historic building. The tank often hides traces of original maintenance and greenery, which gives the place a specific character. It's the perfect place for a short break and a photo shoot.

The facade and the front portal represent another point of interest. A attentive observer will notice the architectural elements that characterize the time of origin of the villa. These details show the taste and position of the original owners. The study tour from the outside allows you to understand the value of this cultural monument without having to enter.

Park greenery around the villa offers a pleasant environment for relaxation. The trees and shrubs surrounding the building create a private and peaceful space. A walk along these corridors allows you to relax and enjoy the natural elements near the historic building. It's a place for slow pace and reflection.

The surrounding street of the village Janovice forms the final part of the route. A short walk along the neighboring streets gives context to how the villa warms up into today's municipal structure. You can see how historical architecture combines itself with the everyday life of local people. This part of the route shows that the monument is not an isolated object but part of a living environment.

This route is designed to respect available information and focus on the main target and its immediate surroundings. Without the need to travel to more remote locations, the visitor can enjoy the essence of the site. The time reserved for this walk is approximately one within two hours, depending on how closely you will view the elements. We recommend shoes suitable for fixed pads and comfortable clothes. This will give you a comprehensive impression of this monument without unnecessary complications.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring: May and March bring fresh air to the surroundings of the villa and the first colorful tones of flowering gardens. The light is soft in this period and very pleasant for shooting details of the construction. I recommend visiting the morning when nature is the most lively. Dress well, because the morning cold can still feel, but the afternoon will be nice.

Summer: In the summer months the garden around the monument is full of dense greenery and the sun highlights the shapes of the house. The atmosphere is alive and full of life, but this can also mean more visitors. For the best experience come right after opening to enjoy peace before the greatest movement of people. Remember light cloth and sun protection.

Autumn: Autumn season offers the most impressive colors, when leaves turn shades into gold and brown. The morning fog around the monument creates a mysterious and nostalgic mood. It's the perfect time for a quiet observation of history without big crowds. Prepare a warmer coat and comfortable shoes because the moisture in the ground can be higher.

Winter: The winter causes the villa very steep and monumentally between the naked branches of the trees. The light is low and the shadows are long, which gives the place seriousness. In this period, there are the least people, which allows for a deeper sense of space. It is necessary to dress well in the cold and take into account that the opening time is shorter at this time.
