Společenský dům Darkov Social house

Společenský dům Darkov, also known as Kurhaus, is a key part of the cultural monument of the spa park in the village Lázně Darkov. This historical building, built in the years 1900- 1901 according to the design of the Viennese architect Korna, is located in the centre of the spa park and represents a historic style. Since 1992 it has been a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

The spa park, founded in 1895 as a natural landscape park with original crops and trees imported from Beskyd, was a place for the first social house built already in 1865. This first object, known as Glass because of its large number of windows, was demolished in 1936. The new social house, built according to the design of architect Korna and realized by Gobiet construction, is a historic style with rich stucco decoration. In 1999-1997, the social house underwent a general repair.

The architecture of the social house is characterized by its single-storey wall structure with a separate floor plan. The central part of the building contains a social hall equipped with a small stage and a large mirror, which was imported from Venice. The hall is lit by a pair of windows with half-circle enchantments and decorated with rich stucco decoration.

The history of the social house is connected to its position as part of the spa park, which was at the time of its establishment a place for rest and therapeutic treatments. In 1901 there was a process of modernization and industrialisation in Europe, which also affected the architecture of the social house. The Czech national movement and cultural revival developed in the Czech Republic at the time.

The social house has undergone several key events that have affected its history. The first social house was built in 1865 and demolished in 1936. The new social house was built in 1900- 1901 and declared a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1992. General repairs of the building took place in 1999-1997.
