Stezka rozhleden a vyhlídkových míst v Euroregionu Silesia Lookout tower
Stezka rozhleden a vyhlídkových míst v Euroregionu Silesia, which is also called Silesian or Polish Szlak Wież i Platform Widokowych w Euroregionie Silesia, presents a unique cross-border project. It is situated in the Moravian-Silesian region of the Czech Republic and in Silesian and Opolské voivodship in Poland, in the heart of the Upper Silesia region, and harmoniously links the attractions of both neighbouring countries.
The project was created in 2016 with financial support from the European Union, the Czech Republic and Poland. The aim was to create a new tourist product that would increase traffic in less exposed locations and strengthen cross-border relations. The trail connected already existing sightseeing sites with completely new objects - 13 new viewpoints were gradually built. The last places added include newly built views of Halaška and Blahutovice and renovated knighthood bastion in Wodzisławiu Śląskim.
The trail includes 34 views and views - 11 on the Polish side and 23 on the Czech side. They extend across connected tourist routes, cycling routes and are accompanied by promotional materials, guides and mobile applications. Each lookout tower is equipped with a metal plate and has become part of a continuous tourist system.
The project features an interesting loyalty program. The visitor can draw a plate on each plate in a special vandalism or use a classic stamp. After collecting a certain number of certificates, he will receive a thematic reward at one of the Tourist Information Centres. The modern option is to register on the web of the trail and collect confirmation via your smartphone.
When planning a visit, it is good to remember that some viewpoints do not have year-round free entry. On the Czech side it is necessary to verify the opening hours at Trúba in Šumberk, Old Jicin, both towers of the city hall in Ostrava, Bolt Tower, Hlovů in Opava, Kanihory in Bílov and White Mountains in Kopřivice. On the Polish side, the town hall in Głubczycach, the lookout tower in Tworków, the tower in Włodzieninie and the bašta in Wodzisławiu Śląskim.

Silesianka, in full called the Trail of Lookout Towers and Viewpoints in the Euroregion Silesia, is a cross-border tourist route. On the Czech side it runs through the Moravian-Silesian Region, in Poland through the Silesian and Opole Voivodeships. It thus passes through the landscape of Upper Silesia. In Polish it is called Szlak Wież i Platform Widokowych w Euroregionie Silesia.
The trail began to take shape in 2016. It was financed by the European Union, the Czech Republic, and Poland. It connects 34 lookout towers and viewpoints, 23 of them in the Czech Republic and 11 in Poland. It also includes tourist routes, cycling paths, guides, a mobile application, and souvenirs. Its aim is to increase visitor numbers, bring people to lesser-known places, and strengthen relations across the border.
Silesianka connected structures that already existed with completely new ones. Gradually 13 new lookout towers were created. Among the latest additions are the newly built lookout towers Halaška near Budišov nad Budišovkou and Blahutovice. There is also a reconstructed knight's bastion, the so-called barbican, in Wodzisławski Śląski.
The places on the trail are very diverse. There are lookout towers on hills, for example Velký Javorník near Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, Bílá hora in Kopřivnice, or Šance in Jakubčovicích. Views are also offered by castle towers, for instance the Trúba tower at Štramberk Castle or the guard towers of Starý Jičín and Vikštejn Castles. In towns you can climb town hall and city towers, such as the Hláska in Opava or the Old and New Town Halls in Ostrava. Special is the Bolt Tower, an extension on high furnace number 1 in Ostrava. The viewpoints also include the Monument to Silesian Resistance on Ostrá hůrka in Háj ve Slezsku. On the Polish side there is for example the tower of the old town hall in Głubczyce, a viewing tower on the ruins of a castle in Tworków or the lookout tower Border Meanders of the Oder in Zabełków.
The trail also has a loyalty programme. At each lookout tower there is a metal plaque that a visitor can trace into a hiking book. Alternatively they can use a stamp. A visit can also be confirmed using a smartphone after registration on the trail's website. Anyone who collects a certain number of confirmations receives a themed reward at the tourist information centre.
Tips for visitors
For the best experiences we recommend a visit in spring or autumn months, when the views are the cleanest and the most colorful nature. During the summer months, the days are longer, allowing longer walks, but higher temperatures must be expected.
Please check the current connections and timetables in search engines or with carriers.
Take with you comfortable shoes suitable for hiking, plenty of drinking water and snacks. Due to the variable weather in mountain areas we recommend to have a waterproof jacket and a map or navigation in your mobile.
For photo lovers, the best moments of sunrise or sunset are when light creates the best conditions on the prospects. The trail offers a total of 34 different places that provide a diverse view of the landscape.
For families with children, the route is a great choice thanks to many stops. In the surroundings you can visit other attractions such as the Castle Štramberk, Bolt Tower in Ostrava or the castle Vikštejn.

Seasonal recommendations
Spring brings the awakening of nature and the fresh green color of the surrounding forests. The atmosphere is full of optimism and blooming flora, which accompanies the steps towards the lookout points. We recommend layered clothing because the morning cold can quickly replace the warm sun. It is ideal to set off in the morning when the air is purest and visibility excellent.
In the summer months, dense trees and intense sunlight dominate the landscape, highlighting the details of the panorama. It is the time of the greatest attendance, so it is advisable to come very early in the morning to avoid the greatest crowds and heat. Remember light clothes, hat and plenty of fluids for the whole trip.
Autumn turns the neighborhood into a colored brain of yellow and red leaves, while morning fog gives prospects a mysterious mood. The lighting is softer during this period and very pleasant for landscape observation. The practical shoe with anti-slip sole is due to wet leaves and visit in the afternoon when the temperature is more stable.
Winter season offers minimalist beauty of snowy peaks and crystal clear air, thanks to which visibility is often highest in the year. Due to frost and snow, warm, waterproof clothes and solid shoes are essential. Due to the shorter day and possible restrictions in access, we recommend planning the journey by noon.
