Vila Heide Villa
Vila Heide is a significant Art Nouveau building from 1908 in the village Česká Kamenice. Originally, the manufacturer Julius Heide lived here with his family. Today the building is protected as a cultural monument and works as a hotel.
The building was established in 1908, when the Art Nouveau and Viennese modernity culminated in Europe and Austria. At that time, luxury villas for rich industrialists were created in Czech cities. The author of the project was the local architect Josef Weinolt. He also designed two neighboring buildings in Máchov Street - Franz Matzke's villa and a house with a descriptive number 513.
Architecture combines elements of Viennese modern with features of rural houses. It is a self-standing, underpanded bunk house with a saddle roof, which has a valba on the south side. The northern facade in Máchov Street dominates the rising risalite with a turret. It has a wooden ceiling similar to a cabin. On the ground floor there is a arched space with decorated railing where the main entrance is located.
The plastered ochre facade is decorated on the ground floor with a wide horizontal belt of yellow bricks; the floor is then repeated a narrow belt of the same type. A shallow, false-raked bay with a shield and decorative formwork with a sun motif ascends above the entrance. The blue-green details of the crossing are also visible on the shield of risality.
The east side is oriented into the slope and garden. In the middle there is a shallow risalite with a yard door with a natural stone. This facade, as well as the southern facade with halves, is supplemented with yellow brick belts and false railing.
The most decorative is the west garden side. In the right part is a glazed winter garden with a valb roof, and on the left is a shallow risalite with a saddle roof and a balcony on the floor. Under the shield there is again a blue green false levelling and decorative formwork with a sun theme. Many original windows and doors (some including fittings), cast terraco, tiles and original stone staircase with forged railing were preserved in the interior.
A garden with an interesting dendrological collection is also part of the conservation. The whole complex is closed by an elegant Art Nouveau forged gate with a smaller entrance gate.
Since 1908, the villa has been held by the family of the manufacturer Julius Heide. It was officially declared a cultural monument in 2004. Since 2015 the building has been renovated and the building is operated as a hotel.
Vila Heide presents a rare example of the industrial architecture of the beginning of the 20th century in České Kamenice. The preserved details and neighbourhood with other Art Nouveau villas make it a valuable destination for visitors. We recommend visiting her as part of a tour of Máchov Street.
