The hydroelectric power plant in Řemice, located on the left bank of the supply channel in the cadastral territory of the village of Bílá Lhota in Olomouc district, is a technical monument built in 1923. This power plant became famous for its functionalist design and history dating back to the 16th century. Its importance lies not only in the construction style, but also in its role in modernising the energy of North Moravia.

The history of the plant is closely linked to the settlement of Nové Mlýna, where the mill was first mentioned in 1564. In the middle of the 19th century this mill was powered by a Jonval turbine and an iron water wheel with an output of 240 HP. After World War I, when Czechoslovakia was in the process of national and economic development, there were also changes in the field of energy. In 1918 he owned the mill Miroslav Plhák, son of Hubert Plálik, pioneer of electricity deployment in North Moravia. The conversion of the mill to the hydroelectric power plant was completed in 1925, but already in 1923 the machinery plant was built. The reconstruction project is attributed to architect Bohuslav Fuchs and some sources include Olomouc architect Hubert Aust.

Architecturally, the power plant is important in its functionalist design. The engine room, built in the style of functionalism, has a facade decorated with semi-circular windows and a concrete fence with a forged gate. The area of the power plant is enclosed by a concrete fence decorated with blue drops. New turbines were installed between 1945- 1950, reflecting technological progress in the field of energy. In 1989, the power plant was returned to the original owners and sold to new owners in 2016. The general repair of equipment carried out in 2017- 2018 included replacement of Francis' turbine for the new Kaplan turbine.

The ownership of the power plant has undergone several changes. In 1918 he was owner of Miroslav Plhák, after World War II she went to the administration of the city power plant in Litovli and later to North Moravian energy. It was returned to the heirs of Miroslav Plálik in 1989 and sold to new owners in 2016.

Key events in the history of the plant include its position in 1923, the transition to the administration of the city power plant in Litovli in 1945 and the general repair of the plant in 2017- 2018. The power plant was part of the North Moravian power plants in Zábank during the interwar period.

Today, the hydroelectric power plant in Řemice is accessible to visitors and is worth visiting not only because of its historical significance, but also because of its beautiful functionalist design. Its location on the left bank of the supply channel and proximity to the river Moravia give the place a unique character. Visiting this monument is a journey to the past, which allows us to appreciate the progress in energy and architecture.

The hydropower plant in Řemice is a reminder of an important stage in the development of energy in North Moravia. Its history and architectural value make it not only a technical monument, but also a cultural heritage to be protected and preserved for future generations. Visiting the power plant in Řemice is an opportunity not only to learn more about the history of the region but also to appreciate the beauty of functionalist architecture.

Welcome to Rome. You're standing in front of one of the most important technical machines in our history, right on the left bank of the feeding channel. Feel the atmosphere surrounding you. Do you hear that constant, soothing sound of water flowing? The water that's passing your legs right now is exactly the force that brought this building back to life, which has kept it moving for decades. Before your eyes, there is a hydroelectric power plant, a building that carries the spirit of the time when the world began to change through the power of water and new machines. Look at her face and try to imagine what everything looked like when she was first put into service.

Now let's go back to time together to understand why this building is standing here. Although this building seems to be a modern work of the last century, its roots go much further back. The mill was mentioned for the first time in the 16th century. Imagine the old time, when everything revolved only by the force of natural currents of water for the needs of local people. The water was then a helper for grinding grain, it was part of everyday life, but its use was limited. But over the centuries, humanity's needs have changed. We needed more power, more light, and a modern way to use this energy for a wider society. So there was a great modernization of energy throughout North Moravia. That is why this power plant was built and its construction was completed in the year one thousand nine hundred twenty-two-three. It was part of a big step forward, part of an effort to make this region a part of a modern, electric world.

Now pay attention to the architecture itself that you are currently observing. Look at the building and try to perceive its shapes. The power plant is an excellent example of what we call a functionalist style. This style was not only about beauty, but above all about making every part of the building have a clear purpose and its form consistent with what is happening inside. Notice these half-circle windows. Their shape is not random. They provide softness to the building while allowing enough natural light to enter the machinery room, which was very important for the workers at the time. Also look at concrete decoration, which enriches the walls and gives the whole construction its characteristic appearance. At that time, concrete was a new and revolutionary material that made it possible to create shapes that were previously impossible. And if you can even see the details at the entrance, focus on the designated gate. This is not only a simple protection, but also an artistic element, which shows the high level of craftsmanship that the then masters controlled. This whole project was the work of important artists of the building. Names like Bohuslav Fuks or Hubert Aust are key here. In addition, some sources indicate that the Olomouc architect also participated in the project. It's a fascinating combination of technical precision and artistic feeling that you can still feel in this building.

The history of this place is not only about stone, concrete and water, but also about the people who left their trail. Every such building has its own stories that are not just written in documents, but are part of its soul. In connection with this place, names like Miroslav Plhák and Hubert Plhák appear in history. These people were part of the world that built, operated and maintained this power plant. Although they may not be written about in every textbook, their contribution and their connection to this place form an inseparable part of the history of this object. Without people who believed in the power of technology and progress at the time, this power plant would never be here where you see it now.

One interesting thing may surprise you, which gives this place even greater weight. This power plant is not just an ordinary technical object used to produce energy. It's a real legacy. In the year one thousand nine hundred eighty one, her hall of machinery and other important parts of the power plant were included in the central list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. This means that its value is recognised by the whole state and we must protect it as a precious treasure for future generations. It is proof that technology and machines can be as important and beautiful as ancient castles or temples. This plant is a living witness to the industrial revolution and technological rise of our country.

Look at her again and try to see the connection between the past and the present. The water is still flowing, the windows are still watching the surrounding countryside, and the building is still a symbol of human progress. It's fascinating how things change and they stay. From a small mill in the sixteenth century to a modern power plant from the year one thousand nine hundred twenty-two-three. This whole path is written in every piece of concrete and every piece of metal you see here.

I hope that this short journey has attracted you over time and has helped you see more than just a simple machine in this building. Now you know that beneath this peaceful surface of water and concrete walls lies a rich and fascinating history. Continue to walk, feel the beauty of the Roman surroundings and enjoy the rest of your day in this beautiful place. Thank you for joining us. Goodbye.
