Vizovice Castle stands in the middle of the town, about 15 kilometers from Zlín. It was built in the second half of the 18th century on the foundations of an older monastery. It was created at the initiative of the Königgrätz bishop Herman Hannibal Blümegen according to a design by architect František Antonín Grimm. In the 19th and 20th centuries it belonged to the Stillfried family. Since 2001 it has been a national cultural monument, owned by the state and managed by the National Heritage Institute.
The history of this place begins in 1261, when a Cistercian monastery was founded here. It stood under the protection of Czech rulers, but due to its proximity to the Hungarian border it suffered from frequent passages of troops. After the Hussite Wars, the nobility gradually, often by force, took possession of the monastery's estates. Jiří z Poděbrad pledged them to Jan Tovačovský z Cimburka. The pledge was later taken over by the lords of Kunštát and they began to treat the estates as their own property.
