Renaissance sandstone gate known as Zdonínská is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, located in Litomyslský Suburb, district Ústí nad Orlicí, Pardubický kraj. This gate remained the only surviving element of the Tadherovsky and Markart Court, which Henry of Donín sold to the city of Vysoké Mýto in 1600. Its historical value is that it represents an architectural monument to the Renaissance period and is protected by the National Cultural Fund.

The gate was part of a court located near the High Myth. The history of this site is closely linked to the family of Donín, who acted as owners here. The key change in the history of the building was the sale of the court by Henry of Donín in the town of Vysoké Mýto in 1600, which led to the gate becoming the only preserved element of the original site.

The Zdonín Gate is built in Renaissance style. The dominant material is sandstone, which contributes to its durable and elegant appearance. Even without detailed documents on the element of the representation, the Renaissance character is evident in the stylization and structure of the object.

The ownership of the gate has changed over the years. After the sale of the court, the property went under the administration of the city of Vysoké Mýto, which was an important event in the history of this building. This change of ownership affected other fates of the gate and its preservation.

Today, the Zdonín Gate is a protected cultural monument, making it an important historical object in the village of Vysoké Mýto. Its preservation and protection are key to understanding the architectural traditions of the Renaissance in this location. The gate is open to the public, allowing visitors to appreciate its historical value and gain insight into the past of the region.

Visit The Donetsk Gate presents an opportunity to explore the unique architectural element of the Renaissance and to understand the history of the local region. The preservation of this monument ensures that future generations can appreciate its importance and beauty. This monument is not only important for history, but also for the cultural identity of the area.

Points of interest

- Even though the Zdonín Gate is mainly associated with the Donín family, there is a legendary story that it has been used in the past as a hidden staircase to escape the mythical castle districts.

- It is interesting that despite its historical origin and architectural value, it was never part of any great conflict or siege, which is exceptional for the monuments of that time.

- According to the local proverb, the gate has "mysterious power" and brings good signs to anyone who passes it. This view is supported by a long-standing sense of peace in the surroundings.

Welcome to a unique and historically rich place hidden in the middle of the quiet streets of Litomyšl Suburb. You are standing outside the Renaissance sandstone gate, which takes you back to the past and tells the story of a time when this area has witnessed many changes. This architectural treasure is known as the Zdonín Gate, the only remnants of the Tadherovsky and Markart Court.

When you notice its elegant form, you can't help but notice how firmly it is embedded in the history of this place. Although the exact date of its creation was kept secret in time and specific architects remained unknown, the gate stands as a witness to rich historical contexts. This house was once part of a prestigious court that became a home for many families and stories.

Look up at her sandstone elements and notice how well they are preserved. This material not only adds resistance to the gate but also contributes to its elegant appearance. The Renaissance elements are clearly visible here in the forms and details that suggest the wealth and taste of the time.

Although specific historical figures associated with this gate are unknown, its presence is evidence of long-term ties to local aristocracy and wealthy families. The gate was probably a key point for those who lived or visited the house, serving as an entrance to a world of history and stories.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is autumn or spring, when vegetation around is the most beautiful and weather usually favorable. This period also allows photography with ideal light to capture historical details of the gate.

Parking is possible nearby, but due to limited capacity we recommend using public transport. You can verify the current connection using an online search engine or mobile travel planning app.

When you visit, take with you suitable shoes because the terrain around the monument can be impenetrable. Also remember the protective sunglasses and enough drinking on warmer days.

For photography, the Zdonín Gate itself is the best place, especially in the noon hours when the sun illuminates its surfaces. For details and a general view, see also from the place at Litomysl Station.
