Dašovice Fortress

Dašovice is a historical monument to the extinct medieval fortress in the district of Třebíč, Vysočina Region. The fortress was part of a village of the same name, whose existence can date back to the 15th century. Its historical value lies in close association with the Hussite wars and other key events of the Middle Ages. The fortress was located in the forest under Møenka mountain, approximately 1.3 km from Lesná, and its remains are now visible as an archaeological site.

For the first time, the fortress Dašovice is mentioned in 1353. At that time, the village belonged to the hard men of the Heraltic who held it until the middle of the 14th century. After several changes in ownership, in 1386 part of the village was stopped by the Jewish Chavlin in Brno. In 1406, the fort was owned by William Roman of Chryjovice, who sold it to Jošt Hecht of Rosic in 1415. The fort was abandoned during the Hussite wars and later probably destroyed during the Czech-Hungarian wars, which led to the village being declared completely desolate in 1505.

The architecture of the fortress Dašovice is characterized by its location on the hill with a moat. The fortress stood at the northwest end of the settlement and was incorporated into the terrace above the creek. The moat that surrounded the fortress had a depth of 2.5 to 3 metres, reaching up to 4 metres on the east side and spreading up to 14.5 metres. On the west side of the fort probably stood above ground object in elevated position.

The ownership of the Dašovice fortress has undergone several changes during its existence. After the lords of Heraltic, who held it until the mid-14th century, a part of the village was stopped by Chavlin's Brno Jew in 1386. In 1406, the fort was owned by William Roman of Chemojovice and was subsequently sold to Jošt Hecht of Rosic in 1415. After leaving during the Hussite wars, the fortress went into the hands of Oldřich of Milichín, who probably destroyed it during the Czech-Hungarian wars.
