Děkanství in Chrasti is a one-storey Baroque building standing on the Square right in the city centre. Since 24 January 1964 it is one of the protected real estate cultural monuments of the Czech Republic.

The creation of the building is closely linked to the tragedy that has befallen the local parish. The original parish from 1664 was completely destroyed by the fire in 1709. After this disaster, a new building was built in 1712-1722 to replace the lost object and serve as a seat of spiritual administration. The construction was carried out in the spirit of the Baroque, which at that time dominated the form of Czech church buildings.

The building was built from an opal wall on a rectangular plan. The one-storey character of the building, typical of the Czech parish buildings of the time, is balanced by the nobility of detail. The facade breaks a simple ledge between the floors. The windows are framed with six window tables, which gives the construction a clear and harmonious solution. The roof has a saddle shape and is covered with traditional bags.

The most significant element is the stone statue of St. Florian in the village on the front of the first floor. Florian stands here in a traditional iconographic concept as a patron saint of fire protection. The choice of a titular saint is not random - it directly refers to the recent disaster that threatened the vicar. The statue carries a chronogram on the plinth dating back to 1738, more than ten years after the completion of the building itself.

The protected area is supplemented by other buildings. Part of the complex is a gateway with a passage, whose lock is framed by stucco frame, and a ground-floor house built to the left of the gate. These buildings co-create an architecturally interesting whole.

Děkanství in Chrasti represents not only baroque construction, but also human ability to heal from loss and create new values. The statue of Saint Florian remains an eternal witness to the former danger and belief in protection.

Welcome to the historical memory of Děkanství in Chrasti, a beautiful town in Central Bohemia. You are standing in front of a one-story Baroque building that boasts elegant mansions and the calm of an ancient square. This guide will guide you in the footsteps of the past and help you notice the details that await your discovery.

Děkanství was built between 1712 and 1722 as a substitute for the original parish church from 1664. The original building was tragically destroyed by a fire in 1709, which led to the need to build a new building which would serve as a spiritual centre for local residents. This Baroque building is not only an architectural achievement of its time, but also an important cultural and historical symbol of Chrásti.

Look up at the facade of the building. Note the simple but elegant ledge between the floors that provides the facade of his peaceful appearance. This detail is a reminder of baroque principles that highlight balance and symmetry. Although we are unable to identify the particular architects of this beautiful building, their work persists as a monument to the time when Chrast was an important place.

In 1738, the facade of the dean was decorated with a statue of St. Florian. This statue is dated with a chronogram and gives the building another layer of historical significance. Saint Florian, known as the protector of the fires, has a special place in the hearts of the locals, especially if you consider the tragedy of 1709. This statue is not just an artwork; It is also a symbol of hope and protection for the community.

Although the particular historical figures associated with the dean are not known, their stories are still written in local traditions. Every stone of this building bears witness to the lives of thousands of people who have prayed and gathered here for centuries.

Now pay attention to the fact that since 24 January 1964 the deanery is a protected real estate cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This status not only recognises its historical and architectural importance, but also ensures its preservation for future generations.

Let's move on to the next discovery. Even if we can't enter the dean's office, you can enjoy its surrounding environment and the atmosphere of the square. Every stone in this building has a story to tell, every window is a door to the past.

Thank you for your attention and we hope that your tour was inspiring. If you have time, look around Chrasti for other historical monuments and enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Pardubice Region. When we learn something new about the dean or his architect, we'll be glad to have you back for more discoveries. With God and have a good day!
