House no. 147 is a grafted building from the end of the 18th century on Zahulicí street in the village Štramberk in the district of Nový Jicin. The building serves as an example of folk architecture in the original building in the suburbs and is part of the town conservation. Due to historical value it was entered in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic before 1988.

The construction was created at a time when Štramberk was mainly wooden. For comparison: the first brick house on the square was built only in 1799. The history of the surrounding area shows the gradual growth of the settlement. In 1558 there were 22 houses with archways, in 1656 already 53. In 1855 the city was hit by a fire that burned down approximately 40 houses and two barns.

Architecturally, it is a ground-floor grafted object of a rectangular floor plan. It is oriented by the shield side perpendicular to the slope towards the road. The house stands on a tall plastered suspect of stone, which equalises dirt terrain and includes cellar spaces with entrances from the street. The three-part layout corresponds to the chamber-sty type, which reflects the original economic use of the construction.

The three-axis shield facade with wall-to-wall windows is vertically boarded with ornaments. At the top of it there is a cabbages and at the heel of the underwood. The saddle roof is covered with metal. Through the cross-axis of the house, the walled hall with the entrances on both gutters passes. The main entrance on the left side is supplemented by a wooden porch.

The house No. 147 is adjacent to the house No. 148 and represents an authentic sample of suburban development that survived in its original form.

The building is a valuable testament to folk construction and life in suburban part Štramberk. Visiting the house allows you to look into the architecture of the end of the 18th century within the urban monument reservation.

Welcome to Štramberk, where history is inserted into every stone and every piece of wood. Right now, you're standing in front of the house with a hundred and forty-seven. Look at him. Before you stand a beautiful representative of folk architecture who carries the spirit of ancient times. It is a grafted building, which nowadays acts as a silent witness to the past, planted in the original building in the local suburb. Feel the atmosphere of this street Zauší, where time seems to stop for a while to allow you to fully perceive the beauty of this house.

Let us now stop at how this house was created and at what time it was born. The grafted structure you see dates back to the late eighteenth century, approximately seven hundred and eighty. So imagine the world over 200 years ago. At that time it was built from materials that were available, and wood from surrounding forests was a natural choice. This house was not just an ordinary shelter, but an expression of the way of life and craft. Even if we don't know the names of the particular builders, their work has survived for centuries. The house also survived dramatic events, such as a great fire, which in the year one thousand eight hundred fifty-five hit the city of Štramberk. The fact that he is still standing before you shows the quality of his execution and the care he has been given over generations.

Now pay attention to the architecture itself and the details that you can observe directly in front of you. Notice the lower part of the house first. The building stands on a tall stone suspect. This stone base is not just for decoration, but it serves a very practical purpose. The terrain in this area is not quite straight, and it is this stone structure that helps to balance the earth's inequalities. In addition, in this lower part there are cellars which have been used to store food and beverages in the cold.

Take a look at the garb itself. The house has a rectangular plan and its internal layout corresponds to the so-called chamber-sty type. That means the house was divided into three main parts. One part served as a living room, while the other areas were intended for economic use, such as animals. This three-part layout was very common in folk architecture because it allowed everything to be under one roof and to use heat effectively from the fireplace. Look at the facade and feel the rhythm of the wooden beams that form the walls. It's a simplicity that has its own, unmistakable aesthetics.

Even though we don't find the names of famous personalities living in this house, the house itself is of a kind. Imagine the people who lived here, worked and cared for their economy. Every threshold they've crossed, and every window they've looked for on Zahulice Street, tells the story of everyday efforts and simple suburban lives. This house is not just a pile of wood and stone, but a monument to human existence and traditions passed down from fathers to sons.

And now I will lead you to what makes this house truly special. You might ask why this particular object is so important. The answer lies in his authenticity. House number hundred forty-seven is today registered in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. This is not only a formal entry in the papers, but a recognition that this is a rare example of folk architecture that we must protect for future generations. In addition, the house is an inseparable part of the Štramberk City Heritage Reserve. This means that together with the surrounding buildings they form a unique entity that allows us to see the city as it once was. The interesting fact is that the entry into the list of monuments took place a year ago eight hundred and eighty-eight, confirming a long-term interest in maintaining this corner of history.

Stop for a moment and think about how many things this house has seen. He saw the arrival of new generations, changes in fashion, even in technology. He saw the city evolve around him, yet he kept his face. It's basically a bridge between us and the late 18th century. When you look at the stone foundations and the grafted walls, you feel connected to people who lived in harmony with nature and built houses that were supposed to last long.

I hope this short trip over time helped you better understand the value of this place. The grafted house number 140 is quiet, but it talks to us very strongly about who we are and where we come from. It is a reminder of craftsmanship and simplicity, which is very valuable in today's hurried world.

We now invite you to further explore Štramberk. Take a look at the rest of Zahulice Street, see the surrounding buildings, and look for other clues of the past that are hiding in this town. Every other house and every other alley can reveal a new piece of the puzzle from the history of this beautiful region. Thank you for your attention and I wish you a pleasant continued journey to explore. Say goodbye to house number hundred and forty-seven and go out and discover another secret of Štramberk.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is morning or late afternoon time when the sun hits the grafted wall and highlights the structure of old wood. Transport to the village is possible by car and public connections; Check specific options in current timetables.

When walking we recommend shoes with fixed soles, which is suitable for walking on historical paths and paving. As it is a residential building, we ask for respect for the privacy of residents and quiet movement around the house.

For the best photos we recommend you search for an angle that captures the rectangular shape of the house in the context of the surrounding building on Zahulí Street. The ideal light to capture details of folk architecture from the late 18th century is during the golden hour.

For families with children, the ideal way is to discover old houses and explain the differences between modern buildings and graffiti.

Themed route

Here is the design of the thematic route:

1. City Monument Reservation Štramberk (area) - Walk through the historical heart of the village where you can admire the unique architecture and atmosphere of the old town. 2. House No. 147 (building) - The main destination of the visit, which represents an important monument within the local building. 3. Seasonal recommendations

In the spring, the surroundings of the house awaken to the colors and nature begins to bloom around. The light is fine and the air is fresh, which creates a pleasant atmosphere for walks. We recommend shoes suitable for wet terrain and light coating of clothing, because the wounds can still be cold. The best place to visit is in the morning when the air is the cleanest.

Summer brings bright sun and rich colors of the surrounding countryside. The building in full light looks very distinctive, but there are many more people in the season. It is advisable to choose light, breathable clothes and make sure to visit in the early morning or late evening to avoid the greatest heat and sound.

In autumn, the surroundings are drawn by golden and red tones that complement the historical appearance of the building. The atmosphere is quieter and melancholic, which is ideal for silent observation of architecture from the outside. It is practical to carry a waterproof coat and shoes with a fixed sole because the roads can be slippery from the leaves.

In winter the building can be covered with snow, which gives it a cosy and fairy tale character. The lighting is short and cold, but in advent time there are special expectations. It is necessary to wear warm winter clothes, gloves and hat to make the stay outside in the cold pleasant.
