Fakultní nemocnice u sv. Anny v Brně Hospital

Fakultní nemocnice u sv. Anny v Brně is a historic and medical institution, located in Staré Brno on Pekařská Street. Its origins date back to the 13th century and today it serves as a workplace for students of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University. The hospital is not only a health care centre for the residents of Brno and Moravia, but also significant because of its history and architecture.

The hospital's foundation dates back to 1238, when the townsman Rudker and his wife Hodava established the first infirmary. It later turned into a Jesuit commandery with the Church of the Holy Spirit. In the 14th century there was a Dominican monastery here, which Emperor Josef II abolished in 1782. In its place a military hospital was built, and later the Imperial‑Royal Supply Institute, headed by Tomáš Pötzl.

In 1867 the hospital was rebuilt according to the plans of ing. Přerovského and the Viennese architect Theophila Hansena. Although problems with underground cavities arose, the new building was completed in 1868 as the State Public Hospital.

After its integration into Masaryk University in 1919, the hospital became an important site for medical education. In the following decades further modifications took place, such as the construction of an annex.

After World II the hospital became a Regional Hospital and later a faculty hospital. In 1996 the bed capacity was reduced, leading to reconstruction and modernization of the facilities. New departments include centers for cardiovascular and transplant surgery.

On 26 January 2026 the management of FNUSA, the Center for Cardiovascular and Transplant Surgery, and the Faculty Hospital Brno were unified. Today the hospital is a state‑funded organization under the leadership of Ing. Vlastimila Vajdáka.

Fakultní nemocnice u sv. Anny offers a wide range of health services and is an important workplace for medical students. Its historic buildings, including the design by Theophila Hansena, represent architectural value.
