Park Studánka is a historic urban park in Staré Brno, within the Brno-město district of Jihomoravský kraj. Established between 1814 and 1818 by the Moravian Estates, it holds the distinction of being the first public park in Bohemia and Moravia. Officially inaugurated on October 4, 1818, with an obelisk celebrating victory over Napoleon, Park Studánka is notable for its historical significance and Empire-style architectural elements.

The origins of Park Studánka date back to a period when Europe was experiencing significant political changes following the Napoleonic Wars. Its creation reflects the era’s emphasis on public spaces and cultural development. Founded by the Moravian Estates, it initially served as part of the broader Františkov area, which included what is now Denisovy sady. This initiative marked a pioneering effort in establishing community-accessible public parks.

Architecturally, Park Studánka was developed in the Empire style, characterized by grandeur and symmetry. A key feature is an obelisk erected during its inauguration, symbolizing victory over Napoleon. Additionally, in 1815, an Empire-style pavilion named Fons salutis (Pramen zdraví) was constructed on the site of a former spring, enhancing the park's historical and aesthetic appeal.

Ownership and administration have evolved over time. Initially managed by the Moravian Estates, it later became part of the Staré Brno municipality. In 1919, the park was renamed Denisovy sady in honor of Ernest Denis, a French historian who contributed to Czechoslovakia’s formation. However, between 1939 and 1941, infrastructure development led to its division into two parts by a road connecting Husova ulice with Nádražní ulice.

Throughout its history, Park Studánka has witnessed key events underscoring its cultural importance. The 1818 inauguration marked the establishment of the first public park and celebrated a significant historical victory. In 1919, renaming it to Denisovy sady highlighted Ernest Denis's influence on Czechoslovak history.

Today, Park Studánka remains an accessible and cherished site for visitors. Located on the western slope of Petrova Hill, it offers insight into early 19th-century public park design and serves as a testament to the cultural aspirations of its time. Historical elements like the obelisk and Fons salutis pavilion continue to attract those interested in history and architecture.

Park Studánka is more than just a green space; it is a living monument encapsulating significant historical narratives and architectural achievements. Its preservation as a cultural landmark since 1964 underscores its enduring value. Visitors are invited to explore this historic park, where past triumphs and cultural developments resonate amidst serene surroundings.
