Fara ve Strašíně, located in the village of Strašín in Klatovy district, is a Baroque building from the 18th century, which was included as cultural monuments of the Czech Republic in 1964. This rectory, with descriptive number 1, boasts rich history and architectural elements that make it important for the cultural heritage of the region. The complex of the rectory includes not only the building itself, but also the stables, the stables, the column and the wall, extending to almost half a square kilometre. The rectory is located near the Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary and its location is characterized by a terrain break, which contributes to a unique spatial arrangement.

The origin of the farm in Strašín dates back to 1754- 1756, although its core dates back to 1740. The original building was built on the site of older structures, probably remnants of the late Gothic fortification of the Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary. During its history of the rectory there were several major reconstructions and modifications, especially during the Baroque era, which manifested itself with complex forms and rich decoration. The Baroque elements are visible in the vaults of the cellars and possibly also in the construction of the roof and the stove. In the 1960s, the mantle was replaced on the rectory building, followed by repair of the facade and expansion of window windows.

Architecturally, the rectory in Strašín is a representative of the Baroque style. Its construction uses older walls, suggesting historical continuity and adaptation to new needs. The complex of the rectory is bounded by economic buildings and a boundary wall, which gives the whole harmony and closure. Internal modifications and improvements were also carried out in the 20th century, indicating a permanent care of this historical object.

Fara ve Strašíně was home to the Czech poet and Catholic priest Franz Daniel Merth, who lived here, formed and eventually died. Its presence gives the parish complex cultural depth and links it to the literary heritage of the Czech Republic.

The buildings of stables and stables forming part of the parish complex were built either in the second half of the 18th century or in the first half of the 19th century. Contemporary is possible a perpendicular and a torso barn, which shows the gradual development of economic structures around the rectory.

Today the rectory in Strašín is not only a cultural monument, but also a place worth visiting. Its historical importance and architectural features attract interested parties to the heritage and history of the region. Visiting the rectory offers the opportunity to explore the rich past and appreciate the efforts that have been made to maintain it for centuries.

Fara ve Strašíně is a reminder of the past, which reminds us of the importance of preserving cultural heritage. It is a place where history and the present intersect, offering a unique view of past generations and their legacy. Visiting this monument is not only a way into history, but also an opportunity to think about the value of preserving cultural monuments for future generations.

Welcome to Strašín. You've just stopped at a place that carries a deep reflection of ancient times and a silent voice of history. You are standing right in front of the rectory building, which, by its presence in this peaceful environment, gives you a sense of stability and duration. Before we take a deeper look at what you see, let us just for a moment see the atmosphere of this place. Look at this Baroque building, which dates back to the eighteenth century. Her face, although influenced by time, still radiates a quite characteristic spirit at a time when architecture sought balance and dignity. Feel the seriousness of the building that has been the heart of the local community for centuries.

Now let's move on to why this place is so special. This rectory is not just an ordinary house, but an important witness to history. Its importance was so great that already in the year one thousand nine hundred sixty-four it was officially registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This tells us that this space has enormous value for all of us, for our future generations. When you look at this building, you look at a piece of our common heritage that has been chosen to protect and preserve. The eighteenth century when the rectory was founded was a time when many faces of our landscape were formed, and this building is one of the evidence that remains of that time.

Now pay attention to the overall layout of the space around you. At first glance, you may find yourself standing in front of one house, but the truth is much richer. This rectory is part of a much larger whole, which extends to almost half a square kilometre. This is a really large area. Notice how this space is organized. Fara is not a lonely place, but a centre of an extensive complex. There are various other buildings around the main building that used to ensure the operation of the entire estate. You can see the stables, stables, and the column that complement this historical whole. In addition, this whole area is bounded by a boundary wall that creates a clear line between this historical territory and the rest of the village. This wall is not only a building element but a symbol of a closed, functional world that once lived and worked here. Take a look at how these different parts are related and how they form one integrated unit that was designed to serve not only spiritual needs, but also practical, everyday tasks of the time.

When you look at these walls and the buildings that once served animals and crops, you can try to imagine the life that was going on here. Imagine the constant movement, the work in the fields, the sound of steps in these spaces and the rhythm of life, which in the eighteenth century was completely different from what we are today. This complex was a living organism where the sacred was linked to the very practical and agricultural one.

And it was in this environment, between these walls and these rooms, that stories took place that exceeded the normal standard of everyday existence. I want to introduce you to a very important person who is closely connected to this place. It was the rectory home of the Czech poet who was František Daniel Merth. Imagine him walking through these paths, looking at the surrounding landscape, and looking for inspiration for his words here, in the silence of this Baroque building. The spirit of his creation is inherent in this place. Maybe now that you're looking around, you can find in the silence and beauty of this place a piece of the same inspiration that once accompanied his piro. It is fascinating to think that this building was not only a place of residence, but also a place where literature was born and where ideas clashed with the reality of the world back then.

But something that may really interest you and perhaps surprise you a little bit is the incredible size of this whole place. We often imagine historical monuments as individual buildings, but here we face something much bigger. The fact that one complex, which includes not only the house, but also stables, stables, a perpendicular and large fenced wall, occupies nearly half a square kilometre, is a real oddity. It's a space that carries an incredible density of history and work. The expansiveness forces you to stop and think about how big the apparatus and what great background the rectory had to represent at that time. It's not just a house, it's a whole small area, an entire focused territory that has its own logic and its own order.

Now that you've come through history and recognized the soul of this place, I suggest you continue your search. Get carried away by the Strašína atmosphere and try to find other details that this historical monument offers. Take a look at the structure of the boundary walls, see the relationship between the main building and its surrounding parts, and try to visualize in your mind the times when everything here revolved around the rhythm of nature and religious holidays. Every inch of this vast space has its own story waiting to be discovered. Thank you for spending this moment with us and for choosing to pay attention to this important site of our heritage. We wish you a pleasant walk and many other interesting discoveries. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit the rectory in Strašín is in the spring or autumn season when the weather is pleasant and green surroundings offer a beautiful view. This time of year also allows you to photograph the building in ideal light without exaggerating sunlight.

It is advisable to bring sun protection and a warm coat during the winter months. The shoes are also important for a long walk if you plan to explore the area or walk around the sights.

For photography is the best place on the west side of the building in the late afternoon when the sun lights up the facade and roof. When visiting, you can also see the stables in the complex, which are an interesting addition to the historical area.

In the vicinity of the monument you can visit other cultural and natural attractions within 30 minutes. We recommend exploring green areas or looking at local markets if available. For families with children it is advisable to plan a short walk in the natural environment around the monument.
