Hotel Zlatá labuť, located in the Grand Square of the village Králíky in the district of Ústí nad Orlicí, is originally Baroque building no. 358, which can be described as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This historic building was completed in 1736 and has been operating as an inn since the beginning. Its architectural significance is highlighted by the classical reconstruction that took place in the 19th century. In 1964, the building was officially listed as a cultural landmark.

The establishment of the Hotel The Golden Swan is closely linked to the Baroque period, which developed in the Czech Republic in the 18th century. This architectural style was known for its rich decoration and complexity in construction. The building was completed in 1736, which is confirmed by the year on the shield. From the beginning she served as an inn, which reflected her function as a place for accommodation and entertainment.

Architecturally, Hotel Zlatá labuť features a one-story corner structure with five window axes facing the square and six towards the side street. The windows are framed by shamans, which is a typical element of Baroque architecture. The main facade is divided by a parapet and crown ledge and ended with a three-axis shield with circular windows on the sides. The entrance portal is adorned by a console ledge carried by moulded volt ankons, the upper-right part of the lining is decorated with a relief of flowers with a resolution. Inside the building was preserved the arched layout of the ground floor and the innkeeper's room with a beam ceiling, which gives the interior historic authenticity.

The history of ownership and administration of the building is not fully documented, but its function as an inn was apparently an important aspect of its existence. Classicist reconstruction in the 19th century suggests adaptation to changes in aesthetic and functionalist requirements of that time.

The key events in the history of the building include its inclusion on the list of cultural monuments in 1964. This was an important recognition of its historical and architectural importance.

Today Hotel Zlatá labuť is not only a monument, but also a place worth visiting. Its history and architecture attract people interested in cultural heritage as well as tourists seeking immersion into the past. Accessibility of the building enables visitors to appreciate its historical value and architectural details, which show the rich past of the village Králíky.

Hotel Zlatá labuť is a reminder of Baroque art and an important element of the cultural heritage of the region. His visit offers a unique opportunity to explore the history and architecture that has survived for centuries.

Welcome to Rabbit. You are standing right in front of one of its most prominent and oldest building dominants. Take a comfortable seat or stand still, take a deep breath of the atmosphere of this submountain town and take a careful look at the house with the number described by three hundred fifty-eight, which bears the traditional and poetic name Hotel Zlatá labuť.

The first sight of you will breathe the peace, balance and dignity of the building, which has been here for centuries. In front of you, you see a large one-storey corner building that has a supremely defined space between the main square and the mouth of the side aisle. It acts with a firm, anchored impression as if it had been a natural part of this place forever. And it really almost is. Its walls remember a time when horse carriages were on the pavement, when buyers from far away regions came to the city and the town square lived a busy market day full of sounds, smells and human hustle.

Now let's go back almost 300 years in time, until this building saw the light of day. Construction of this originally Baroque house was completed in 1736. At that time, Baroque shaped the face of Czech and Moravian cities, bringing a new generosity and a sense of representation. In Rabbits, which were an important centre of crafts, trade and also spiritual life, it was necessary to offer facilities for those who visited the city from far away. And that is the purpose of this house. From the very beginning, i.e. from 1736, it was conceived and operated as an inn.

When you think about this fact, you realize the extraordinary continuity you have ahead of you. Few buildings can maintain their original mission for so many centuries. The Golden Swan was not a private palace closed to the public or an inaccessible mansion. It was a building with an open door, a place to meet, a haven for tired pilgrims, a room for fun, serious business meetings and everyday interviews of local townspeople.

Now pay attention to the architectural representation of the building, which tells you the story of successive changes. Although the roots of the house are deeply embedded in the Baroque epoch, its present form bears a significant mark of the nineteenth century. In this period the house underwent a major classical reconstruction. Classicism brought moderation, order, symmetry and geometric purity to architecture. He cleaned the facades from the lush baroque curves and replaced them with a calm, harmonious breakdown.

First look at the facade that goes directly to the Grand Square. You can easily calculate that it is broken by five window axes. This five windows creates a balanced rhythm of the entire front wall. If you look closely at individual windows, notice how they are framed. Around them come the champagne, a decorative plastic frame, which gives the window openings depth and distinct shape. Under the windows you can see horizontal parapet rims, which support the entire composition from the bottom elegantly and optically.

Then move your view a little further away, towards the corner of the house and along the side wall that stretches to the next street. Here the construction is even longer. Instead of the five window axes you saw from the square, six of them are headed for the side street. This corner position was ideal for the inn. It ensured excellent visibility from the main area, while at the same time allowing comfortable access from quieter secondary communication, which was very practical for the supply, housing of horses and the day-to-day operation of the economic background.

Now raise your eyes a little higher. Above the first floor is a significant crown ledge. This massive horizontal line separates the living floor itself from the roof and gives the whole house a solid crown. And above this ledge is one of the most beautiful elements of the entire building. Look up at the building shield.

This shield is three axes, which means it's divided into three vertical fields. Notice its shape and especially small circular windows that are placed in it. This round window, sometimes called the oxen eye, illuminated the soil space and still gives the shield an extremely picturesque, playful character. Right here, in contrast between the stricter classical facade on the floor and the picturesque shape of the shield with round views, you can still sense the ancient Baroque heritage of the whole house.

You may be wondering who actually designed and built this remarkable building. The names of the builders and architects who stood at her birth in 1736, as well as the names of the masters who led her classicism in the nineteenth century, remain covered in mystery. Their records were not preserved in the sources. Nor do we know the particular famous historical figures who would leave their indelible entries in the commemorative books. But that's where the greatest magic and the most impressive of this place lies.

The Golden Swan is a monument to the honest craft of baroque masons and carpenters. It is an imprint of the lives of hundreds and thousands of ordinary people, formans, craftsmen, passengers of merchants and rabbit neighbors who sought rest behind these walls, a glass of good fluid and warm food after a long journey through difficult mountain terrain. Every stone in the foundation and every brick in the façade were witnessed by calls about crops, weather, political changes, and major historical twists that crossed the country.

What's also interesting is how much seriousness the house has preserved in modern times. In 1964 the building of the Hotel Zlatá swan was officially listed on the list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. This move confirmed its exceptional architectural and urban value for the city of Králíky. State landmark care has thus recognised that this one-storey corner building with its three-axis shield, parapet ledge and balanced facades represents an indispensable jewel of the historical core.

Imagine for a moment what it must have been like when a stagecoach arrived at this house on a messy autumn evening in 1750. There was a warm candlelight coming from the windows, smoke rising from the chimney, and there was laughter and tinned corbels outside the massive walls. The inn offered safety and warmth in the rough foothills, a lighthouse in the middle of the night. And even today, when you stand on the pavement of the square and observe its peaceful facade, you can still perceive the warm friendliness.

Now you can look around the facade once more. Enjoy the fine line of shambrans, the rhythmic layout of windows and the charm of circular holes in the shield high above you. If you want, you can go around the building and look into the side street to appreciate its true depth and dimension.

Thank you for your attention. I wish you a pleasant continuation of your walk around the rabbits and many other beautiful experiences while discovering the secrets and beauty of this historic city.

Tips for visitors

The best time to admire the exterior architecture of this historic house in the Great Square occurs during bright days in the morning or early afternoon. The sunlight in this part of the day pleasantly illuminates the street facade and makes the classical elements and the overall proportions of the baroque core stand out. The visit is pleasant to plan from spring to autumn, when walking through the square is the most pleasant, but the impressive atmosphere offers even snowy winter season.

When shooting an object, it is worth retreating further to the area of the Grand Square, from where you can capture the house in the context of the surrounding historical development. The wide-angle lens or panoramic mode on your phone allows you to capture the entire height and width of the facade without unwanted distortion of perspective. Nice shots are also made in subevening soft light, when fine shadows form on the facade to highlight the breakdowns of windows and rims.

The location is easily accessible by car and public transport. The current connection by public transport to the city of Králíky can be verified in common search engines. On arrival by car, the square is the natural centre of the city, with the possibility of unsetting the vehicle in the surrounding area being governed by the valid local traffic signs.

Take a walk around the historical core with comfortable shoes suitable for moving on the paved surface. Due to the submountain position of the city, it is advisable to count on a more variable weather and pack an extra layer of clothing or raincoat. For families with children, the square represents a quiet space to stop, where you can show the children the differences between historic townhouses and involve them in searching for architectural attractions on facades.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings awakening nature in the vicinity of Kralik, where snow is receding on the slopes and the sun's rays begin to warm up the old plaster of the Golden Swan Hotel building. The light is bright and sharp, ideal for observing architectural details of the exterior while the trees in the surrounding area are still flowering. During this period, dress in layers because the morning cold quickly turns into pleasant afternoon heat, and wear waterproof shoes for melting snow and spring rains. Since you can't come in, plan an outdoor walk in the morning, when the air is the cleanest and the hiking in the streets is minimal.

The summer lights up the historic facade of the building with rich colors and long days provide plenty of daylight until late evening. The surrounding green is in full bloom and the atmosphere of the city encourages the peaceful discovery of the exterior without rush. The best time to visit the surroundings of the monument is early in the morning or in the evening, when temperatures fall and we avoid the greatest heat in the morning, while the outdoor areas are a little more lively in this season.

Autumn covers the Králíky into a colourful palette of yellow and red leaves, creating a photogenic contrast with a dark roof cover and walls of a former hotel. The atmosphere is melancholy, often accompanied by morning fog, which gives the building a mysterious character, and the dwindling daylight creates soft shadows. For cold and windy autumn days, a warm jacket, fixed shoes and hats are necessary because the weather is variable. The best time to admire architecture from the outside is around noon, when the fog falls and the sun passes through the clouds for a while.

Winter turns the city into a frosty kingdom, where a snow blanket is held around the Golden Swan building, and early clams cover the exterior in silence. The light is silenced and short, often reflected from snow, which makes the quiet evening outlines of the house stand out under the snow cap. The need is the quality winter shoes with anti-slip soles, warm coat, gloves and scarf for protection against the freezing wind from the surrounding hills. For an outdoor stop at the monument, choose the right morning when you can best see before it gets dark in the afternoon.
