Hrobka Lobkowiczů v Netíně Tomb

The Lobkowicz Family Mausoleum in Netín is a neo-Gothic burial chapel dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Mary, constructed between 1869 and 1871. Situated on Strážnice hill near Netín in the Žďár nad Sázavou district, it serves as the final resting place for members of the noble families Lobkowicz, Harrach, and Podstatzky-Lichtenstein. This mausoleum is a significant cultural monument reflecting the historical ties between these aristocratic families and their estates.

The origins date back to the 19th century when Leopoldina z Liechtensteinu, married to Prince Lobkowicz, acquired the estate. After her son Ludvík's death in 1868, she commissioned architect August Prokop to design and construct this mausoleum as a family memorial. Completed in 1871, it marks an important period when Bohemia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, characterized by cultural and architectural developments influenced by historicism.

Architecturally, the mausoleum exemplifies neo-Gothic design with brick construction, pointed arches, and ribbed vaults. It comprises two levels: a crypt below and a chapel above. Originally roofed with slate, it was later replaced by sheet metal in the 1960s due to damage. Notable features include an octagonal bell tower adorned with a spire and buttresses supporting the walls.

Ownership transitioned through several noble families over time. Initially linked to the Lobkowicz family, it later passed to the Harrach family and then to the Podstatzky-Lichtenstein lineage. These transitions reflect the interconnected histories of these aristocratic families within the region.

Throughout its history, the mausoleum has witnessed significant events. The original bell from 1735 was requisitioned during World War I in 1917. A new bell, consecrated in 1929, was hidden during World War II and returned to its place in 2002. These events highlight the mausoleum's resilience through turbulent times.

Today, it is accessible to the public only once a year, making it an exclusive site for visitors interested in Czech history and architecture. The surrounding landscape includes a scenic lime tree alley and a pilgrimage route leading up to the chapel, enhancing its serene atmosphere. Inside, visitors can admire wooden pews with heraldic shields and a baroque cross, adding to the mausoleum's historical allure.
