Kapounovský dům is a Gothic house no. 676 in Old Town in Prague, located on the corner of Jakubská and Rybná streets. The first mention of him dates back to 1355. At the same time it was extended to its present form. In 1964 it was declared a cultural monument. The history of the house is closely linked to the Kapoun family of Svojkov, who owned it from the year before 1541.

The house is next to the monastery of Minorites at St. James's church just behind St. Jacob's Church. The first mention of the house is from 1355. At that time, it was extended to its present form. The reference from 1429 gives the name of the house "U owls." Before 1541, he became the owner of the Kapoons of Svojkov. After the Battle of White Mountain, the property was confiscated by the owner of Christopher Kapoun from Svojkov, but the house was bought back after a while and belonged to him until 1834.

The house burned down in the fire of Prague in 1689. The document from 1713 lists it as a burning ground, but in 1720 there was a wine and beer leg and brewery. The house burned down again in 1754 and Johana Kapoun had it rebuilt in 1791. The plans for this early classical reconstruction were created by Zachariáš Fiegert. A hundred years later, in 1891, a party car was built along the east wing.

The cellars are gothic with a vaulted vault, the rolling vault is also on the ground floor, the floors are flat-ceiling. Kapounovský dům is remarkable by its rich history and architectural details that demonstrate its importance as cultural monuments. The house is an important part of the historical context of Prague and its architecture is remarkable by its combination of Gothic and classical elements.

Let's immerse ourselves in its origin and historical context. Kapounovský dům was first mentioned in 1355. At that time Prague was a place where various cultural and political currents intertwined. The house gradually developed and became part of the life of the Prague people. In 1429, the house was called "The Owl," which was an expression that remained after centuries. The key moment for his history was the takeover of the Kapoun family from Svojkov around 1541. This family played an important role in the life of the house that became their home and center of activity.

Architecturally, this house is remarkable with its details, which you can see at first sight. His Gothic structure tells about the time it was built and expanded. Zachariáš Fiegert, the architect who worked on it, left his print in the form of elegant lines and rich decorative elements. Look up and see how the Gothic elements revive the facade.

The key person associated with the Kapounov House is Kryštof Kapoun ze Svojkova. His influence on the house was fundamental, and his story is an inherent part of the history of this place. The house has undergone many changes - from the fire in 1689 to the renewal of the following years, when it was rebuilt and sanctified for new purposes.

One of the attractions of this house is its proximity to the monastery of minorities at St. James's church. The house is located just behind the church of St. Jacob the Greater, which gives this place another historical meaning and beauty.

It is also interesting that the house was declared a cultural monument in 1964. This means that its importance was not only recognised by the local population, but also nationwide.

Now let's look at what the house is worth exploring. His rich history and architectural details will interest you. Look at the facade and see how the past blends with the present.

Thank you for your visit to the Kapounovsky House. We hope that this historic house reached out to you and inspired you to explore Prague again. Whatever you like, you'll find out!
