In front of your eyes is Kestřánkova vila Marie, a building that is not just a house, but a symbol of a certain era, an era of beauty, wealth and artistic expression. Can you feel the atmosphere? You are standing at the corner of the Karlovy Vary class and the street of Božena the Germans, in a part of the city called Severní Předměstí. This villa stands here as a witness to the time that brought new ways of building and new life's joy.

Now let's go back in time together to understand why this place looks just like this. Imagine 1897. New dreams of magnificent settlements are being born in Pilsen. Architect František Krásný was given the task of designing a home for a man who at that time represented the pillar of the local economy - the brewer Karl Kestránek. Karl wasn't just an ordinary craftsman, he was a man who could dream of a home thanks to his business, reflecting his success and status. He and his wife Maria wanted something special. And so in 1898, according to František Krásný's design and thanks to the professional performance of Emanuel Kloz, this Art Nouveau beauty was actually born. The villa of Mary became home to the family of Kestránek and her name, Mary, was undeniably dedicated to this very important woman, the wife of the brewer.

Now pay attention to the architecture itself that surrounds you. Look at the overall shape of the building. It is a typical example of Art Nouveau style that loves smooth lines and rich decoration. If you raise your eyes higher, your attention will certainly attract the most striking part - the staircase tower. It is a dominant element that gives the villa nobility and height. Notice how the tower culminates with a dome that is beautifully drawn against the sky. This tower is not just a functional element, it's a symbol of ascension.

And if you look closer at the walls, notice the subtle details. On the facade you will find a stucco relief, which tells a story known as the banishment of paradise. It's a work of art that gives the house depth and spiritual dimension. Secese has always looked at nature and human emotions. And right next door, nearby, you can see another treasure - a plastic job called the Pilsen Dud. This work by sculptor Jaroslav Maixner brings a human, local element to the overall operation of the house, which firmly connects this luxury building with Pilsen tradition and culture.

Who were the people who went through these places every day? Karl Kestřánek and Marie Baggins. It was the people who built their future in this home. It is interesting that this whole part of the city, Severní Předměstí, is in some sense linked to Maria, who lived here. It's fascinating how the names and fates of individuals can leave a trail throughout urban space.

But the history of this place is not just a story of pure beauty and triumph. It is also a story about how the world is changing and how some parts of our heritage can be lost in this process. If you look at how the villa is organized today, you may not realize it was different once. Something happened between 1977 and 1980, which many now consider very insensitive. The staircase in the building had to be sacrificed when the road was extended, i.e. when building a wider road for transport. This intervention in the original form of the house was painful and changed the way we meet the villa today. It is a reminder that progress sometimes comes at the cost of losing something precious and irreplaceable.

Yet, despite these traces of time and failed intervention, Kestřánkova vila Marie remains a shining point in our country. It is a place where the art of the architects Beautiful and Kloz meets the life of the brewer Kestránek. It's a place that teaches us to feel the details - from the dome on the tower to the face of a statue of a piper.
