kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie (Laškov) Church

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a parish church in Laškov in the Prostějovsko region, roughly eight kilometers east of Konice. It belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of Laškov, serves regular church services, and is the dominant landmark of the municipality. It has been a protected monument since nineteen fifty-eight.

The present church was built between sixteen twelve and sixteen twenty by Bohuš the Elder Kokorský of Kokor in the Renaissance style. A sandstone memorial plaque commemorates its founding to this day, set into the exterior wall of the presbytery. However, this church was not the first on this site. During repairs in nineteen thirty-nine, older masonry was discovered, and from it scholars conclude that a different church or chapel once stood there. That structure was consecrated sometime between fifteen seventy-nine and fifteen ninety-eight by the Prince-Bishop of Olomouc, Stanislav the Second Pavlovský.

The building underwent major transformation in eighteen oh-six. At that time a new sacristy was added, the nave was extended, and the windows were replaced. In eighteen forty, the church acquired an organ, which was replaced by a new instrument in eighteen ninety-nine. During the First World War, in nineteen sixteen, all three church bells were confiscated for military purposes. New bronze bells numbering three were blessed only in nineteen twenty-five.

The church is single-naved with a rectangular floor plan. The nave is followed by a pentagonal choir, on whose sides stand the sacristy and a storage room. Above the entrance in the main façade rises a four-sided pyramidal tower with a clock.

A cemetery once surrounded the church. In the nineteenth century it was closed and relocated further north to where it remains today.

The interior was decorated in nineteen twenty-nine by academic painter Jano Köhler. Also valuable is a Rococo organ case that came to Laškov from a closed church in Svitavy.
