The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a Roman Catholic historical temple in Silesian village Soběšovice in Moravian-Silesian Region, district Frýdek-Místek. Believers in Soběšovice have had this church since ancient times, originally built out of wood.

The first written record of the parish was held until 1654, when it fell under the administration of the parish. After this year he went to the parish Domaslavice where he remained a part of. In the late eighteenth century, namely from 1788 to 1789, believers replaced the original wooden church with a new building wall. This was common because stone buildings are more durable and safer.

In July 1933, a disaster collapsed - lightning hit the church tower and caused a significant destruction. Although the damage was serious, during the next two years the temple was repaired and returned to its original state.

The real breakthrough came with technical progress. The village Soběšovice was preparing for the heating of the original site of the construction by the Násnická dam. The last service in the historical church was held on 28 October 1956. Six months later, on 16 April 1957, the builders obtained a building permit and started building a new temple in another place. The construction was financed and implemented by local parishioners themselves through work in brigades - they did not receive any subsidy from the state. The material that can be used was taken from a demolished original church. The new church was about the same size as its predecessor.

On 29 October 1961 the church was ceremonially consecrated by Monsignor Dr. František Onderk. This action was completed by a remarkable communal initiative which proved that believers were able to secure a dignified temple without external help.

In the newer times, the temple has seen further improvements. It was reconstructed in 2009 with the support of the European Union funds. Ten years later, in 2019, the European funds built and opened the adjacent headquarters of the parish community - the house of the parish family. The church is thus not an isolated building, but part of a living communal infrastructure that serves believers and visitors today.

Welcome to the Church of Visiting the Virgin Mary in Soběšovice, a place full of history and spiritual sense. You're standing in front of a walled building whose facade opens up a view of the past. This church is not only an architectural milestone for this area, but also a witness to the determination and spirit of the community.

Let's dive into its origins and history. Originally there was a construction made of wood that served local believers as their religious center. There was a significant change between 1788 and 1789: the original wooden church was replaced by a new brick building. This transition from wood to stone symbolizes not only architectural progress, but also strengthening faith and community in this area.

But now you can observe that the church that stands before you is the third in this place. His history was dramatically influenced by lightning, which in July 1933 intervened and destroyed the tower of the original church. This incident led to the need to build a new temple, which became a reality after 1956 when the last service in the historical church took place.

In 1961 he witnessed a celebrated event - the new church was consecrated by Msgro. Dr. Francis Onderk. What is particularly remarkable is that this new temple was built without any state subsidy. It was built only through the efforts of local parishioners, which shows their commitment and joint work.

Look up at the facade of the church and perceive its simple but solid structure. Although we do not know the names of architects, their work is present in every stone that has been placed with kindness and care to make the temple a place of prayer for many generations.

Key stories took place at the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. Although specific historical personalities are not known to us, every stone block and inner space tells the story of people, their faith and their determination. Imagine the prayers that were said here and the community that was formed here.

The interesting thing about this place is not only its architectural development, but also the story of resistance. The lightning that destroyed the tower was only one of the trials that the church survived. His return and new construction are a testament to spiritual strength and community spirit.

Now that you have immersed yourself in the history of this place, I invite you to further explore. Look around and have the atmosphere that rules here included. Every detail has a story and every stone piece talks about the past.

Thank you for your visit to the Church of Visiting the Virgin Mary in Soběšovice. We hope they have encountered the history and inspiration this temple has to offer. May this place welcome you for further visits.
