The Church of Saint Barbara stands in isolation about a kilometre and a half south of Zahrádek in the Českolipsko region. On this site once lay the medieval village of Mnichov with its original church. The village disappeared, but the church remained in its place. The present building is Baroque, and beneath it is the family tomb of the Kounics.
The oldest written record about the parish in Mnichov comes from 1352. It was preserved in the register of papal tithes. However, the settlement of the area is even older. An archaeological survey in 1976 revealed pottery documenting the settlement of the plateau from 1319. It also found Gothic foundations of a bell tower from the second half of the 15th century.
