The church of St. Philip and Jakub stands in the village of Lelekovice in the district of Brno-venkov as a filial temple of the Vranov parish. It is a protected cultural monument which represents the long construction history of the Czech countryside.

The Lelekovice Temple is supposed to be built in Romanesque style probably in the middle of the 13th century. At that time he served under the original initiation of the Virgin Mary. The builder designed it simply as a one-ship building with a flat ceiling and an orthogonal priesthood. Individuals and dimensions are characteristic of the village churches of their time - a simple thing without unnecessary pomp. To date, its oldest elements have been preserved: the circumferential walls of the ship and the priesthood bear witness to the quality of the construction craft at the time.

At the beginning of the 14th century comes one of the visible elements - a portal in the southern wall of the ship. Approximately half of the 14th century ago, the chateau was built near the church, which changed the face of the surroundings.

The fundamental changes awaited the temple at the end of the 15th century when it was adapted to Gothic taste. The perimeter walls were raised, the church was assigned support pillars and the ceiling was covered with a cross vault. A sacristy was added to the south wall of the presbytery. About 1567, a tower with a wooden bell floor was hovering over it at the end of the construction.

The tower was transformed in 1873 when the bell tower was demolished and replaced by a new, prismatic tower in the western front of the church. At the same time, another sacristy was added to the eastern conclusion of the priesthood, suggesting an intensive adjustment of the temple space.

The 20th century brought liturgical changes to the church in the late '60s and' 70s. Their author was architect Josef Opatřil. In 1967 the cross road was also realized, the graphic author Jarmila Totusková.

There is a cemetery surrounding the church, which complements the sacral area. The preserved parts of the building - the original walls, the portal or the gradual building layers - speak of consistent preservation and respect for the history that the temple embodies. It stands as a witness to several centuries of Czech history and its construction.

Imagine going back to when our ancestors lived in the village Lelekovice. The church of St. Philip and James did not exist at the time, but people lived here and tried to survive.

Here lived the praise peasants who had a large narrow field with chestnut and vineyard. They also had a small fort where they met at war councils. And then one year in 1300 a certain builder came to the village and started building a church. It was a big project that lasted years.
