St. Nicholas' Church is located at the southwest edge of Mladá Byslav, in Vinci. It is a Roman Catholic filial temple which has been protected as a cultural monument since 1967 and since 2008 it has been bearing the status of a national cultural monument. The construction is valuable as a witness to the medieval pre-scription - it gave the name of the so-called Winecan church group, which combines the typical shape wealth of architectural elements.

A simple square building of carved blocks was created in approximately 1240. It is one of the few churches around Mladá Bloslav, which preserved its original form without radical reconstruction. The roof is of the tent type. The construction is dominated by a formatted lid and polygonal apsis - a semi-circular finish of the interior of the presbytery.

The wealth of beauty lies in the details. The walls of the ship break down the typical Romanesque lizens - thin pilasters - with decorative arc frieze. The windows have a semi-circular cap and decorated lining; The north and south sides of the ship have a similar type. The chorus adorns half-pillars with ornaments in the form of claws on the heels and decorated heads. Над leads them through an arc lash with a tooth cut and a ledge decorated with palm trees.

The portal on the north side is richly decorated. It is defined by the lizens, over it is spread an arc lash with a tooth and a ledge with palm patterns and animal masks. The four-leaf window above it illuminates the inner bleachers. The portal itself grows out of the plain wall and is decorated with recessed half-pillars. The column heads carry geometric and plant motifs, while two more output columns have heads with reliefs of eagles. In the tympan - middle field of the portal - there is a primitive relief of Christ's cross and two lying figures.

The interior hides an unusual design: the ship is half filled with empora - elevated gallery. It was created by a double vault carried by pillars and consoles. Empora is accessible by a staircase in the thickness of the south wall. The flat wooden ceiling covers the space.

The facility dates back to 1886, when the church was restored in a puristic style. The ceiling paintings were preserved in the vault of the apside. At present, the construction is one of the most preserved testimonies of Romanesque architecture in Mladá Bloslav and its surroundings, thanks to the absence of substantial reconstructions over centuries.

Welcome to St. Nicholas Church in Vince.

You are facing one of the most valuable and best preserved Romanesque churches in Bohemia. His walls that stand before you come from a time when our country had just formed - the turn of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. And what's most interesting? This church kept its original form almost unchanged, as if time had slipped past it. This makes him a rare treasure that reminds us of what sacral architecture looked like when Gothic cathedrals were born in Europe.

Let's go back to the past for a while. The church was built in 1240 as one of the first preserved churches in the vicinity of Mladá Byslav. It was the time when colonizers settled here, new villages were established, and small church buildings with them. This church, however, was not just an ordinary parish chapel - its simplicity and harmony show that it was built with respect and care. In 1967 he was registered as a protected cultural monument, and in 2008 he was awarded an even higher honor - he became a national cultural monument. This shows the importance not only for our village but for the whole Czech history.

Now look at his facade. The church has a square floor plan, which was common in Romanesque architecture, but its true strength is made up of polygonal apsida - the semicircular conclusion that stands behind the main entrance. Notice how the walls are broken down by lizenas - they are decorated with typical Romanesque motifs that resemble older traditions. These vertical outputs not only underline the height of the building, but also give the interior a special rhythm. And there's another surprise waiting for you inside.

Note how compact and spacious the church is simultaneously. Its simplicity is not poverty, but the result of artistic intent - Romanesque architecture loved massiveness, symmetry and calm. And right here in Vince, you will find one of the few churches in the area that has preserved its original form without radical reconstructions. This is why it belongs to the so-called * wine group of churches * - a collection of sacral structures that share similar architectural features. These include other small churches in the area, but this local church of Mikuláš is characterized by another unusual element: an empire. Yes, just like we know from larger temples. Its existence inside such a small building is a real rarity and it shows that the church had a meaning in the past which exceeded only the local parish.

Now pay attention to the atmosphere surrounding you. Standing in front of this church, you can feel time slowing down. These stone walls bear centuries' worth, but at the same time they look like they were built yesterday. This is the magic of Romanesque style - its purity, the absence of excessive ornaments, but also of deep spiritual significance. The church of St. Nicholas was not only built as a place of worship, but as a sacred place where people could pray, meet and seek shelter from everyday worries.

And now it comes to one of the most interesting questions: why did this church retain its original form while so many other monuments were rebuilt, expanded or even demolished? The answer lies precisely in its small size and remote position. At a time when massive Gothic cathedrals were built in other parts of Bohemia, the church was fulfilling its function without the need for radical changes. And that's why today he can show us how simple she looked, but a master Romanesque sacral architecture in our parts.

Stay a while and get carried away by this place. If you choose to enter, observe how light penetrates through small windows and creates a shadow game on the stone walls that resembles old legends. Notice how your steps reflect in the calm of this space - the church of St. Nicholas in Vinci is not only a monument, but a living testament to the past, which can teach you not only to listen to words, but also to silence.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this place with us, which is worth getting to know. Let this visit inspire you not only to admire but also to realize how rich our heritage is in our own parts. If you want to learn more, don't hesitate to ask local or visit nearby information. And when you leave, remember these walls that are now whispering to you the stories of our ancestors. Good trip and next time.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit St. Nicholas' church in Vinci is in the spring or autumn when there is pleasant weather and fewer tourists out there. In summer there is often a great interest, so it is worth coming early in the morning or in the afternoon when it is quieter in the interior and you can see detailed carvings and frescoes in peace. The Roman church is also beautiful in the rain when light penetrating through the windows creates interesting shadows on stone walls.

Transport by public transport is also possible, but the current connection needs to be checked in the traffic search engine because the lines can change.

When visiting, wear comfortable shoes because the church has stone floors and some parts are slightly uneven. Also bring comfortable clothes because the church interior is not air conditioned and it can be cold in winter. It is advisable for children to take something to think about, such as books with pictures or small laptops, so that you can entertain children while visiting.

Photography is allowed in the church, but care must be taken to respect other visitors and not illuminate too strong the light of some part of the interior. It is recommended to photograph in a pleasant light, i.e. morning or afternoon, when the light is not too hard.

In the vicinity of St. Nicholas' church in Vinci, the church of St. Wenceslas in Mladá Byslav is worth visiting, which is about two kilometres away. This Gothic church is an important sacral building and offers interesting historical and architectural elements. Another interesting feature is the Baroque castle Mladá Boleslav, which is located in the city and is also a suitable destination for the next tour. Both of these places are easily accessible by car or on foot.

For families with children, a visit to St. Nicholas' church is interesting thanks to its historic atmosphere and the opportunity to learn something about medieval architecture. Children can be intrigued by stories associated with the church, such as legends of its foundation. In the vicinity of the church it is also possible to play on a small playground or see the surrounding nature. It may be interesting for children of older age to compare the Romanesque church with the Gothic church of St. Wenceslas in Mladá Byslav.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring Vinec Church of St. Nicholas awakens to life in spring months in a completely different light than in other seasons. The sun, which rises higher in March and April, disperses in the windows of the church and creates a game of shadows on stone walls, while the surrounding meadows and vineyards dress up in green and purple shades. The atmosphere is quiet, almost mysterious - after winter months the church appears to be cleaned, without summer crowds, and its bells sound cleaner in the spring air. It is practically best to visit it early in the morning, when tourists do not yet appear, and avoid rainy days when trips to the monument can become muddy. Clothes should be medium-warm, with an umbrella for possible showers, and comfortable shoes are necessary for walking around the surrounding vineyards where the first grapes are collected at this time.

Summer In the main summer season Vinec will turn into a lively, sunny destination where St. Nicholas' church stands as a dominant point in the green landscape background. The warm rays of the sun fall directly on his facade, which creates sharp shadows and brings out the details of stone reliefs. The surrounding nature is in full bloom - vineyards are full of ripe grapes, and there are often rural events that attract visitors. It is recommended to come early in the morning to avoid the biggest crowds, and always have enough water and sun protection cream. Summer is an ideal time to visit, but it is necessary to count on a higher temperature inside the church where it can be stuffy. Light, breathable clothes and a hat are suitable, while after dark the church appears in a different light when its silhouette draws against the dark sky.

Autumn Autumn Vinec offers a unique atmosphere where the church of St. Nicholas acts as a dark outline against the golden and red leaves of the surrounding trees and vineyards. Colder air and shorter days change his appearance - the sun sets earlier, and the church dresses up in shadows that create dramatic effects on his walls. At this time the surrounding area is quieter, but also more variable - rainy days alternate sunny days, and sometimes fog may appear, which gives the church a mysterious aura. It is advisable to visit it in the afternoon, when light becomes softer, and prepare for colder weather. Hot, layered clothes, waterproof shoes and lamps in case of bad visibility are necessary. In advent time, the church appears to be an ideal place for peaceful meditation, while the surrounding vineyards resemble the autumn fairy tale.

Winter Winter Vinec is like a fairy tale - the church of St. Nicholas rises above the snowy landscape, its stone walls covered with thin ice coating and a roof covered with snow. The sun, which rises low in December, illuminates the church from the side, which creates long shadows and gives it a mystical look. The surrounding vineyards are covered with a white blanket, and the air is clean and cold, making the visit an experience full of peace. In winter, however, shorter opening times are needed, often only in the morning, and the possibility that some roads will be closed for snow conditions. It is recommended to warm but comfortable clothes that allow movement, and firm shoes with anti-slip soles. Visiting in winter is ideal for those looking for peace and unusual beauty, but you need to be ready for sudden changes in weather.
