Kostel svatého Vavřince (Komárov) Church

The Church of St. Lawrence in Komárov is a historical monument that reveals cultural changes of Bohemia. It is located in Karlovy Vary and has roots dating back to the middle of the 14th century. Originally built as a Gothic parish church, it was later rebuilt in Baroque style in 1750. Since 1958, it has been protected as a cultural monument and is also included in the list of endangered properties.

The church can be dated to the middle of the 14th century when it was built as a Gothic parish church on the eastern edge of the village Komárov. The first mention of him appears in 1358, when the sovereign was the patron. From 1560 to 1624 he served as a Protestant church, reflecting the period of reformation and subsequent religious tension in the region. After recatolation, it worked as a filial church until 1850 when the parish was reestablished. In the 1950s, it was abandoned and gradually decayed, leading to the loss of internal equipment.

Architecturally, the church is a single-boat oriented building with a ground-floor sacristy on the north side of the priesthood. The end of the priestry is semicircular and the windows are oblong, both up and down ended with an empty arch. In 1750 the church was rebuilt in the late Baroque style, which is evident on the interior with the Fabion flat ceiling and stucco decoration. The masonry of the ship at the priesthood contains fragments of the original Gothic structure.

The ownership and administration of the church have undergone several changes. Since 1958 it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. In 2019 he transferred to the property of the Roman Catholic parish Bochov, which continues his restoration with financial support from the Karlovy Vary Region.
