The origins of Libořice Castle trace back to the early 14th century when it first appeared as a fortress in 1338. Its transformation into a baroque castle began under František Josef Šlik, who directed its redesign and construction between 1718 and 1739. This period marked significant cultural and architectural developments across Europe, with Bohemia being part of the Habsburg Monarchy. The Baroque style, characterized by grandeur and dramatic elements, influenced this transformation, reflecting broader European trends.

The main wing retains vaulted rooms dating back to the early baroque period, indicative of its historical evolution. In 1924, significant modifications were made to both the façade and interior spaces, enhancing its architectural complexity. Originally surrounded by a park, much of this landscape has disappeared in the 20th century, leaving the castle amidst agricultural land between the village center and the Blšanka River.
Ownership of Libořice Castle has changed hands several times throughout history. Initially under František Josef Šlik's direction, it later passed to the Hrabata z Klebersberku family from 1739 until 1847. Subsequently, ownership transitioned to Reichbach in 1847 and then to Anton Dreher in 1872, marking a series of dramatic changes in its administration.
While specific events at Libořice Castle are not extensively documented, its transformation into a baroque castle is a notable historical milestone. Libořice is a Baroque castle in a village of the same name in the Louny region. It stands in an agricultural complex between the village square and the Blšanka River and has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964.
The first written mention of Libořice dates from 1333. Five years later, a fortress in this location is also mentioned. The estate then changed hands several times until Count František Josef Šlik purchased it in 1718. He had the old fortress rebuilt into a Baroque castle in 1737. Just two years later, in 1739, the castle passed to the counts of Klebersberku. Václav of Klebersberku founded the castle park after 1780, which was designed by Rudolf Födisch, a gardener from Černín.
From 1847, the castle belonged to the Erfurt burgher Reichbach, and from 1872 to the Austrian entrepreneur Anton Dreher. In 1924, the facade and rooms on the first floor were renovated. Later, a state farm was located in the castle, which carried out a complete reconstruction of the building in 1974.
The castle has three wings and one floor, with its facades being unadorned. The main wing has been preserved from the original fortress. On its ground floor there are rooms with cross and barrel vaults in the early Baroque style. During the 1737 reconstruction, a two-armed staircase was created in the facade, lit by a large casement window.
Inside the castle there used to be a square chapel dedicated to the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist. It had a flat vault and an oratory on stone consoles. The castle park lay between the farm courtyard and the Blšanka River, though its larger part disappeared in the twentieth century.
