Litice Castle, known as Litiz in German, is a historical ruin located in Záchlumí municipality within the Ústí nad Orlicí District of the Pardubice Region in the Czech Republic. It stands on a wooded hilltop above the village of Litice nad Orlicí, about 7 km west of Žamberk. Constructed during the late 13th century under the Přemyslid dynasty, it was part of efforts to colonize sparsely populated border forests in northeastern Bohemia. The original Gothic appearance was largely lost during this period, with only the two-palace core retaining its 14th-century architectural style, similar to Helfenberk and Menstein. The castle's fortifications were adapted for artillery use, featuring a wall and deep moat crossed by a drawbridge at its most vulnerable point. The entrance was through a tower gate built with an adjacent guardhouse, notable for its stonemason art from the 1460s linked to King George of Poděbrady.

Ownership of Litice Castle changed hands several times, reflecting its fluctuating fortunes. After the Kunštát family's tenure, Vilém II of Pernštejn purchased it in the late 15th century and linked it to nearby Potštejn, transferring the administrative center there. The castle's importance declined over time, leading to neglect and eventual ruin. In 1562, it came under the ownership of the lords of Bubna of Litice. By the 19th century, parts of the structure had disintegrated, prompting repair efforts in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that stabilized the southern palace and tower.

Key events at Litice Castle include its use as a prison for prominent Bohemian nobles in 1309 by Prague and Kutná Hora patricians. During the Hussite Wars in 1421, it was besieged, highlighting its strategic importance. The castle's name was transferred from an original family seat in southwestern Bohemia, and it served as a significant stronghold for the Kunštát family.
