Mahenův památník Library

Mahenův památník is a cultural site located in the Masarykově quarter of Brno, serving as the headquarters for the Jiří Mahen Library. This monument, situated at Mahenova 8 in Stránice, honors poet and journalist Jiří Mahen, who lived there from 1935 to 1939. The site opened in December 1992, following efforts by Karla Mahenová, Mahen's widow, to preserve his memory. It houses a branch library and an exhibition dedicated to Mahen’s life and work, making it a notable cultural landmark.

The origin of Mahenův památník is closely tied to the posthumous wishes of Jiří Mahen and the dedication of his wife, Karla Mahenová. After Mahen's death in 1939, his widow stored his belongings at the National Museum in Prague until they could be returned to Brno. It was not until the early 1980s that Karla Mahenová began planning for a memorial in their family home, where she lived until her death in 1991.
