Měšťanský dům Růžová 299/3 House

Měšťanský dům Růžová 299/3 in Liberec in New Town is a classical building from 1798. It is remarkable with preserved shield orientation and religious relief on the facade. The building is protected as a real-estate cultural monument of the Czech Republic within the urban monument zone.

The building was created at the site of the original wooden object. In the current masonry it was built in 1798, when the reconstruction was carried out by the builder Johann Joseph Scholze for the Souvenir Ignaz Hörnig. The foundation of the house was part of the blossom of the textile industry and soukenism in Northern Bohemia. At that time, the architecture dominated the classicism following ancient patterns.

This is a storey brick house on a rectangular plan. The north shield facade is heading for the Pink Street, while the south side is facing the garden. The northern part of the 19th century was extended by the western extension. The facade with smooth plaster and a semi-circular end of the shield is broken down by the presses. They connect to the horizontal belt separating the atics. The triangular attics with a round end are further divided by two lisenas. In the middle part there is a half-circle window decorated with stucco relief with floral motif.

A significant detail is the stucco relief with the coronation of the Virgin Mary in the middle of the horizontal belt under the window. It was because of this element that the house was called the Mother of God. The entrance doors have a rococo shaped sandstone portal with a gem in which the initials of the owner I. H. The first floor of the house consists of four window axes, the last one being the western extension. On the ground floor there are two windows along the door and a small window in the annex. Windows are modern, double and double-winged. The south facade has smooth plaster with pink paint and tipping windows.

In later years the house underwent reconstruction which led to the simplification of the facade. Unlike the usual Liberecan Classicist houses, however, this object retains its shield orientation.

The house represents an authentic example of urban architecture from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. It documents the social status of the then Liberec craftsmen. It is a valuable addition to the urban monument zone and is worth a visit to explore the historical core of New Town.
