Městské divadlo v Broumově is a cultural monument and theatre institution in the Náhod district. Its present appearance comes from a radical reconstruction carried out in 1902, although the theatre tradition in the city dates back to the 17th century. The object serves as an important cultural space for Broumov.

The first documented theatre event took place in 1647, when local students presented a religious game in the square. In the 18th century behind Abbot Benn Löbla reached the theatre, which was closely linked to the monastery, its peak. However, two major fires in 1684 and 1777 stopped development. After the second one, the monastery theatre almost disappeared and the performance was subsequently held occasionally in the hall of the Broum Town Hall.

The restoration of the theatre tradition was allowed by the doctor MUDr. Franz Seraphin Kneisler, who in February 1804 proposed to the municipal magistrate to use the premises of house No. 54. He offered to finance the reconstruction and planned to donate his earnings to the workhouses. The project included a medical study and a room for the sick on the ground floor, while the theatre hall was located on the first floor. Despite the resistance of the monastery, which planned the school in the building, the Regional Authority authorised the operation in May 1804 and the reconstruction was completed in 1806.

In the following decades there was a generation of theatricians, among whom were Josef August Lang, Heinrich Sturm, Carl Dauscha-Sperling and later director Maurus Tauber. The building suffered by fire in 1838, which destroyed roof roofs and led to the reconstruction of the main facade. The most significant change occurred in 1902 when the original building was almost completely torn down and replaced by a modern building.

During the 20th century the theatre underwent several modernization in the years 1929-1930, 1935, 1946, the 1980s, 1997 and 2004. Traditional amateur theatre gradually fell, culminating in the last game The spring blossom in the orchard on 28 October 1937.

The current object is a four-axis two-story house with a triangular shield and an atika where the Broumova character is located between the windows of the second floor. The rear part of the building retains elements of a late Gothic building from the 15th century. The interior is flat-ceiling and there are oval medallions on the stucco ceiling with portraits of 19th century German writers.

Městské divadlo v Broumově represents a unique link between historical tradition and architectural layers from Gothic to modern reconstruction, preserving the memory of local cultural life. His visit offers insight into the long-term development of theatre in the region.
